So this was fun. Here in New Zealand we're in a strict lock-down. Until yesterday we were not allowed to leave our homes and unfortunately we had no sweets in the house (we call candy, sweets, rather than candy). On Friday night the Covid Level changed and so I was able to go out, strictly on a go there and go straight home basis. We're only meant to be going to a supermarket (no other shops are open) to buy essentials, so I bought some flour as well as licorice allsorts. I might add, they're delicious. 😅

Geometry shapes are all around

my maths professor said

of angles there are seven types

zero, acute, right, obtuse,

and then there are instead

straight, reflex, complete

they show up everywhere

defined at the point where two rays meet

curves, straight lines, adjacent lines, squared lines

points, circles squares, rectangles

you'll even see them in the street

They're everywhere………….

And what is my picture? It's a small portion of two cake cooling racks, set at angles and stood against a piece of white paper, then shone with red, green, blue bright lights to create shadows and accentuate the different angles. It almost looks like a piece of tartan, don't you think? It certainly shows to me how geometry is everywhere.

I have a little padded pouch bag that has 3 zips. Late last week, I was about to give it away because I no longer have a use for it. Then I noticed that the zips have silver highlights on the top of the teeth, which is actually quite attractive, and realised there was my "Zed". Participating in Macro Mondays is certainly helping me to be a lot more observant and I enjoy how beautiful everyday items can end up looking in my photos.

This tiny drop on a clover leaf in the grass was no more than 5mm diameter, yet look how it reflects a world in its bubble.

This was fun to do. The beads are about 1mm diameter, so it was 'interesting' trying to balance them and keep them in place. Lovely challenge. HMM 😀

taken by my smartphone, I saw them too cute, an awesome things in my little garden.

A macro detail of a small, polished lace agate slab - it shows some rather pretty patterning, I think, and the red-orange-brown color is natural (of course).

This turned out beyond my expectations. The picture happened with a thin tablet of soap, lathered up under water, then placed on a glass shelf with a light underneath. When I saw the resultant picture I was very excited at how lovely it came out. Isn't it great?

In New Zealand, during Summer, we are constantly being reminded about about SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK, SLIDE.

So here we have my kitchen grater which is four-sided with a handle on top. I started off taking photos of the bigger holes. Then I put a red light and a white light behind it and, voila, the small holes on the opposite side of the grater showed up. That surprised me, so I moved the lights around to show up the background holes more strikingly. Wow, these macro topics can be such fun and bring about rather surprising and delightful results. I would never have done any of this without a little prompting and I'm loving it. HMM 😀

Here's a picture of the grater

I bought this glass star 20 years ago and hung it in our kitchen window. I love the way the early morning sun dances on it, causing it to glisten with colours that aren't readily obvious until the sun lights it up. I've never taken a photo of it, before, so this has been a fun opportunity to record its beauty.

English Bluebells, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, [also known as Native Bluebells] at Bunny Old Wood Nature Reserve, Nottinghamshire, which is part of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and English Nature.

The Woodland Trust #BigBluebellWatch

The wood is widely recognised as one of the leading places in the UK to see Native Bluebells and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Best viewed full screen. Looks far better on a PC/Laptop monitor.

It started as a bit of fun however has, over the years, developed into a whacky tradition. On Christmas Eve the two of us always have a drink of bubbly and a piece of christmas cake. It started with a strawberry on the side of the glass and a tiny umbrella set into that. One year, for a bit of fun, I put a wedge of tomato on the glass instead of the strawberry. It looked so interesting that I have continued doing it (must be for more than 10 years). Each year I add something different to the mix so these days we're up to two glasses on the tray, christmas cake, christmas mince pies, licorice allsorts and fake flashing coloured light cubes. Absolutely the silliest tradition, yet heaps of fun. 🎄🎅

Recently visited Oldmoor Wood, Nottinghamshire. Oldmoor Wood is a woodland in Nottinghamshire, near the village of Strelley. It covers a total area of 15.11 hectares. It is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust.

I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.

Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.

How to tell the difference.

English Bluebells: Flowers on one side of the stem.

Spanish Bluebells: Flowers all around the stem.

My picture features a sheet of New Zealand Christmas wrapping paper. Christmas happens in the middle of Summer, here, so Christmas Day for the majority of us usually happens at the beach with a BBQ and of course we're all dressed in shorts and t-shirt. Families will enjoy their BBQ lunch (or dinner because we're on daylight saving and it doesn't get dark until 9pm) then they'll swim or play cricket on the sand or nearby grass area. You may notice that my wrapping paper features New Zealand Christmassy symbols, such as a BBQ and Jandals (perhaps known as flip-flops or thongs to you?) HMM and have a Merry Christmas 🎅

Hier konnte ich einen wunderschönen C-Falter einfangen der mir in meiner Sammlung noch fehlte 😊

Yes, Karen, I chewed through that plant too. Call pest control – see what happens.

From my garden. Ferns to Flickr. They are steadily unfolding and now's the perfect time to get some macro shots.

A bit of springtime colour in the sunshine. 🌞🌸

I'm really enjoying this process. This is the handle hinge of a blue transparent plastic bucket (i.e. the entire bucket is made from blue transparent plastic, including the handle). I used lights inside and outside the bucket, to create shadows, etc. HMM 😀
