“Field with misc beauties”
Photo taken on april 19th at the Tulip Festval 2023, The Noordoostpolder.
Recently visited Oldmoor Wood, Nottinghamshire. Oldmoor Wood is a woodland in Nottinghamshire, near the village of Strelley. It covers a total area of 15.11 hectares. It is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust.
I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.
Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
How to tell the difference.
English Bluebells: Flowers on one side of the stem.
Spanish Bluebells: Flowers all around the stem.

La gran libélula verde (Erythemis vesiculosa)
Esta especie prefiere estanques pantanosos, incluyendo los temporales, también vuela sobre recodos en arroyos, aunque quizá no se reproduzca allí.

The grasshopper subfamily Acridinae, sometimes called silent slant-faced grasshoppers, belong of the large family Acrididae in the Orthoptera: Caelifera.
Lycaena phlaeas, the small copper, American copper, or common copper, is a butterfly of the Lycaenids or gossamer-winged butterfly family. According to Guppy and Shepard (2001), its specific name phlaeas is said to be derived either from the Greek phlego, "to burn up" or from the Latin floreo, "to flourish".
Spring is in the air, a little early. Spring doesn't officially start until 20th March. Nice to see the delicate Weeping Willow seeds (Salix Babylonica) making an appearance at Attenborough Nature Reserve (Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)), here in Nottinghamshire.

This is my trusty magnetic rod that I use for picking up dropped dressmaker pins. Its diameter is similar to a slim pen and about half the length. I've had it since my fashion industry days in the late 1960's. These days I'm not doing a lot of sewing, so it sits in a little metal machine accessories tin along with a couple of tiny screwdrivers, a little brush for fluffing dust from the sewing machine needle area, and a pair of tweezers that I used to use when threading my old over-locker. The little magnet still works well and gets used on the odd occasion - and creating this photo certainly was a most odd occasion for its use.
From my garden, Ferns to Flickr. They are steadily unfolding and now's the perfect time to get some macro shots.

I was photographing this sunflower in my garden when a bumble bee landed on the central disk. Its position on the left side of the flower shows the detail of the pollen and the structure of the seed pattern clearly. It was walking around the centre of the flower in a steady circular motion that reminded me of a second hand moving around a clock.

When moving around with a macro lens, a completely new and fascinating world opens up. Found this incredible, alien-like structure while exploring the Akionlahti nature reserve in Oulu, Finland. It looks like a tiny football, but it is actually the ripening seed capsule of an Arctic Starflower (Lysimachia europaea).

A butterfly with striking black-and-white markings rests against a background image of another butterfly with similar patterns. The real insect’s wings echo the printed design behind it, creating a play of mimicry and illusion.
Taken August 10, 2016 at one of our local gardens. I loved the fullness of its open petals and the lovely shade of pink.

Blackthorn tree Blossom (Prunus spinosa) seen at Straws Bridge Local Nature Reserve (LNR).
It's a hardy, deciduous shrub or small tree native to Britain and Europe, known for its dense, thorny branches and white, early-spring blossoms. Growing up to 7ft tall, it is a key hedgerow plant for security, wildlife habitats.

Probably the very last fly of the season for me. This little fellow had lost its way and ended up indoors, likely trying to escape the autumn chill. I decided to capture a tight shot of its face before leaving it to buzz around in the storage room.

Lucilia sericata (Meigen, 1826) (Diptera: calliphoridae)
La mosca verde botella común (Phaenicia sericata o Lucilia sericata) es una mosca de la familia Calliphoridae encontrada en la mayoría de las áreas del mundo y la más conocida de las numerosas especies de moscas verde botella. Don't ask me how long I've had these little things in the fridge. It's probably 2 or 3 years. We don't usually enjoy garlic, however for a while I was subscribing to a meal kit delivery service and they included garlic in the kits. I ended up with quite a bit of it, however these few are the last ones left - I wonder if I ever will use them?
