A principal característica de uma fotografia é a composição. A luz é imprescindível, claro, mas o que torna uma imagem inesquecível é que recorte de realidade o fotógrafo escolheu naquele exato instante.

Rosemary Beetle (Chrysolina americana) on Lavender (Lavandula; in the mint family, Lamiaceae) branch!
It is an attractive 5mm long metallic green beetle with purple stripes on its wing cases and thorax. The beetle devours the leaves of rosemary, lavender, thyme, sage and some other related plants. The beetle is a native of southern Europe that has become an established pest in Britain since the 1990s.

Bon Mardi à tous
Continuing my series of delving into the hidden and intimate landscapes of the plant world. Here small seed heads or emerging flower buds appear to be craning their necks towards the light in a bid to escape the darker depths below.
I'm occasionally asked how I make these more 'painterly' images and whether it's done in camera or in post processing. There's a bit of both. The essential image is made entirely in camera - nothing added or taken away (except for minor dust spots etc. The swirly effect is entirely down to many elements in the scene simply being out of focus - achieved by a combination of wide open aperture, close proximity to subject and a close up filter on the lens. In post processing I make small adjustments to highlights, tones and shadows and finally, I use a split toning technique to either cool down or warm up the highlights and shadows in the scene. No extra layers are added or blended and there is no multiple exposure. I find simplicity is key. Allowing the main subject to 'breathe' and be seen within its softer surrounding context tones and elements tends to work well too.

Life is just one fair chance to feel and understand the grand designs in every creation of mother nature...their intricate and inherent beauties...and thus believing in them. Such is the source of pure joy and happiness that million dollars cannot buy otherwise...

A close-up of a mortar and pestle, their smooth wooden textures perfectly complementing each other. Together, they embody the simplicity and elegance of traditional tools, seamlessly working as one to grind and blend.

My new website for my water drop photography.
This was designed for me to update the gallery myself, so I will be making changes now and then.
I am now working on a Facebook page for this.
Thank you again for all your support and interest. I don't know where this will go but I had to take the step.
"Nature’s armor"
by ChatGPT
In this macro study of the Crown of Thorns plant, the camera takes us close to a world that is both fierce and fascinating. The twisted brown stem, etched with age and marked by scars, feels almost like the weathered skin of a survivor. Out of its surface erupt long, pale thorns—sharp, unyielding, and ready to defend.
The contrast is striking: the matte, cracked texture of the bark speaks of endurance, while the smooth, silvery spines radiate menace yet elegance. Light plays across the thorns, sharpening their presence against the muted green backdrop, making them feel alive, almost sentient.
This image tells the story of resilience—the plant’s way of thriving in harsh environments by wearing a crown not of flowers, but of defenses. Yet there’s a quiet beauty here: each thorn positioned with geometric precision, each scar a testament to survival.
Through this close-up, the viewer is reminded that beauty in nature is not always soft and delicate—it can also be raw, protective, and untamed.
