This image is part of a new series of digital images I'm very excited about that use predominantly creative-commons photos as springboards for experimentation with color and technique in order to evoke a variety of physical, mental and emotional responses in viewers.

I am so sorry.
Long time no see. There wasn't much time in the last weeks. I didn't even take any photo outside since May...
I'm sorry for not showing any picture for such a long time.
Thank you so much for your patience :)
Sooo... what's new in my life?:
I got some pets :) When I was young (haha :D; 14/15) I had a lot of phasmids (extatosoma tiaratum and phyllium philippinicum) but quit breeding when moving to Berlin.
Since August they're all back :D 10 sweet little animals: 6 phyllium philippinicum and 4 extatosoma tiaratum! Get ready for a few photos of them next time :)
But first here's a photo of lilac I took in April.
Have a nice week and thanks a lot for your kind feedback and your nice words :) I read everything! <3
Contrast program to all that friendly, soft and sweet spring colors and models :D
Here's a nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) for you. It was pretty tiny and was sitting at my basement wall.
I took my chance to shoot it with my reversed Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and an external flash.
I chose f/13 as aperture.
Magnification ratio: ~ 4:1

A shower of rain leaving a line of pretty pink water droplets on a pastel pink rose.
I pushed the buttons too many times and ended up with a shilelagh on the drop.
Done with The Time Machine using this set-up. I cut out a shamrock on a piece of paper and taped it to the frosted glass behind the water tray. The flash at the rear had a green gel and the milk was dropped into plain water with the other flash directed at the drop.
Hello, everyone :)
I mentioned in my previous photo that I got pets and I promised to publish photos of them!
So here's the first picture, showing one of the little cuties (10 in total: 6 phyllium philippinicum and 4 extatosoma tiaratum).
It's a walking leaf insect; species: phyllium philippinicum. Their natural habitat is an island in the Philippines where they enjoy warm weather the whole year (22-27 °C). To reach this temperatures, I installed a spot light above the terrarium and connected it to a thermostat, so the light will switch on if the temperature in the room is below 22°C.
In the photo you can see a female walking leaf in stadium L3, which means it has moulted two times (L1: after hatching, L2: first moult, L3: second moult).
Currently the insect is approximately about 2,5cm long and will reach 8-9cm in adulthood.
Some technical details about the photo: I stacked 8 natural light exposures to get this DOF. The result of the stacking process was almost flawless so I just had to adjust a few small things. Then a little bit of post processing, that's it :)
I hope you like it :)
Have a nice weekend!

A principal característica de uma fotografia é a composição. A luz é imprescindível, claro, mas o que torna uma imagem inesquecível é que recorte de realidade o fotógrafo escolheu naquele exato instante.

Rosemary Beetle (Chrysolina americana) on Lavender (Lavandula; in the mint family, Lamiaceae) branch!
It is an attractive 5mm long metallic green beetle with purple stripes on its wing cases and thorax. The beetle devours the leaves of rosemary, lavender, thyme, sage and some other related plants. The beetle is a native of southern Europe that has become an established pest in Britain since the 1990s.

Bon Mardi à tous
Continuing my series of delving into the hidden and intimate landscapes of the plant world. Here small seed heads or emerging flower buds appear to be craning their necks towards the light in a bid to escape the darker depths below.
I'm occasionally asked how I make these more 'painterly' images and whether it's done in camera or in post processing. There's a bit of both. The essential image is made entirely in camera - nothing added or taken away (except for minor dust spots etc. The swirly effect is entirely down to many elements in the scene simply being out of focus - achieved by a combination of wide open aperture, close proximity to subject and a close up filter on the lens. In post processing I make small adjustments to highlights, tones and shadows and finally, I use a split toning technique to either cool down or warm up the highlights and shadows in the scene. No extra layers are added or blended and there is no multiple exposure. I find simplicity is key. Allowing the main subject to 'breathe' and be seen within its softer surrounding context tones and elements tends to work well too.

Life is just one fair chance to feel and understand the grand designs in every creation of mother nature...their intricate and inherent beauties...and thus believing in them. Such is the source of pure joy and happiness that million dollars cannot buy otherwise...
