Everybodies favorite thermostat crab makes a second appearance. This time a little bit closer. If you View Large you'll see that some of the hairs on his face and legs are actually feathers. Vinnie, what's up with the feathers?
Tomorrow I'll post a tighter crop of the feathery goodness.
I noticed this spider on the north side of my home and waited for sun and reduced wind to take its photo. Photo taken with old glass (90 mm Canon fd mount lens at f/11), 10 mm extension tube and manual focus.
I followed this spider for a wee while, watched it eat a fly and waited for it to turn around to get a good shot. Unfortunately it never turned around while still eating the fly, but once it had finished eating it hopped away and then peeked over this piece of wood for this shot.
You can just see one of its chelicerae poking out from under its palps.
This spider had woven a huge orb web across a 10 foot span of my back yard that I almost hadn't seen when cutting the grass. I tried to get a picture of it in the web but my digital camera refused to focus on the spider itself. Since I needed to finish cutting the grass, I collected the spider up on the back of a notebook. Then I could get a picture.
It curled up into a little lump, apparently imitating a bird dropping.
Well, I finally braved my fears and did the unthinkable (for me)...got this close to a SPIDER...!! My hands were shaking so bad it's a wonder you can tell what it is!

Opened my front door and there's this huge cobweb almost in the way.
Made some good Macro photography, although a bit awkward taking them from a step ladder.

This angle was worse to process. But I managed. And got a better shot with less disturbing background.
