I was still awake, late one stormy night. My bedtime long past and nowhere near my mind. With eyes peeled open deep into the darkness of night. As if expecting the rain to wash away frayed nerves. Lightning flickered through the garden illuminating drops of rain and inky dark silhouettes. The slashing of bushes and foliage rustling against the window kept my heart in my throat as shadows flowed through the window and into my room. I felt a sudden cold. From the corner of my eye, I glimpsed a dark figure. Slowly, as if floating, it seemed to creep from the garden and toward my door! Catching my racing heart, skin tingling and eyes still certainly open. I could not have been dreaming; no, and I had not been drinking this night. Clad in red and glittering with light like some long flowing dress made of rose petals awash in red wine. It was ... a woman. Curiously, my eyes seemed to catch what must have been scarlet hair flowing along her shoulders. With a slight turn, she revealed a strange nod as if confirming my recognition. I could not see her face. Catching my whits and dashing to the door, the lock clumsily refused to get out of my way. I busted the door open with a bruising kick just as a deafening bolt of lightning sent me fleeing back inside. What was I doing? I must be losing my mind... Shivering, and peering out of the door, she was gone. Just like that. Gone. Only the steady flow of rain remained. The wind seemed to calm as a sigh of relief passed my lips. It's finally time to go to bed. As I shut the broken door, my heart sinking back into my chest, I turned around and saw nothing, nothing but a red dress...
A late night tale from a place of dark fairies. Happy Sliders Sunday and wishing everyone a great day ahead!

Late March, the time when the pandemic began to actually lose momentum, on one of many solitary walks; also the time I had a valid excuse for the extended hikes I was doing anyway. 😜
Unlike primes, vintage zooms get a bad rap in general and I can sort of understand where this is coming from, and frankly ..it's not unfounded. Yet, over time, I came to the discovery that there are exceptions (at least in the Nikon pantheon, usually the ones with constant aperture), very well worth putting in some effort, cause they deliver.
In retrospect I'm not, but at the time I was kind of surprised how quickly the 28-50mm AI-S became my goto landscape walk-around lens. Incredible useful focal range, both on FX and DX, it obviously is a compromise in terms of maximum aperture and things related to that compare to primes, but not in regard to image quality in general. It's a weirdly constructed little native AI-S lens, that has all the vintage qualities I cherish.
Is it my first choice for creamy bokeh? Probably not, yet it is able to do some nice things with the pseudo-macro function at f/3.5. Good enough for me it seems. 😊

This dragonfly came up to me. He was hovering right in front of my face, and I was really examining him, thinking, how does he see me?
