This exotic Mexican bulb is sometimes called peacock flower, an appropriate name in view of its quite startling colour combinations- all the shades of scarlet, orange, pink, yellow, mauve and white, usually with contrasting markings.

My friend Aaron gave me his dedicated macro lens to try out for a few days. It's opened up a whole new world to me, just like he said it would.
Butterflies of Morocco exhibit. I finally had motive to figure out the macro-setting on my 105mm zoom. The best part is that I know it is good enough for me that I don't have the burning desire to go spend much needed money on another lens that I may not get to use very much.
This is an RBOKL shot - Reverse Bottle On Kit Lens. I hand held it together - if you want to get sophisticated, use electrical tape! See here:

My camera had the standard kit lens (18-105mm) mounted, with my macro lens (front against the kit lens). The macro bottle DOF lever must be fully OPEN. Closing the aperture down will only narrow the field of view.
Control the DOF with the kit lens (f32 in this case). If you want really shallow DOF (depth of field) then leave the kit lens wider open.
Macro bottle is an old manual lens from an old film camera (55mm, f1.2).
Shoot with kit lens on tele (105mm) to minimise vignetting from the macro bottle. The bottle should also have a large aperture to minimise vignetting. To maximise magnification, set the macro bottle to infinity, kit lens to closest focus.

For the time being, I have to hand-hold the lens in place (not very convenient, especially if you have les than 3 hands!).

Curiously, most of the honeybees in this field were clearly not the shape or color of the more common Italian variant you see in most of the country --I am thinking these above are perhaps German/Black domesticated variants?
This climbing rose on our front arbor greeted me when I went to get the mail the other day. It said, "please take my picture."
its been macro-mania for me the past few days....

Saw this on a blade of grass and decided to try for a photo of it. I have given it a heavy crop for a better view.
All the fruttie pics were taken in RAW, which I'm still learning, and were enhanced in PSE 9, which is VERY new to me ~ obviously ~ some aren't so hot.
My camera had NO lens mounted, but I hand held my macro lens (front against the lens hole on the D90 body). I shot with the DOF lever fully closed (the aperture on the bottle was closed down to f16). If you want really shallow DOF (depth of field) then leave the macro bottle wide open (f1.2 on my bottle).
