This spider created a large net on my balcony. I hope, it will not try to spend the winter in my appartment.

Diese Spinne hat ein großes Netz auf meinem Balkon gebaut. Ich hoffe, daß sie nicht den Winter in meiner Wohnung verbringen will.

This is a male Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly eating a moth.

When I was lurking around my garden today, I noticed a wasp fly past carrying something. I managed to follow him and found him munching on a caterpillar (hopefully one of the mob that hang out in my veggie garden)

She was a little restless at first, but eventually settled on this leaf. This allowed me to take a couple of good macro shots.

If I'm not mistaken, she is a Scarabaeidae Melolonthinae. In tagalog, we call them Salagubangs, which refers to a type of beetle.

SALAGUBANG is a Filipino word for a group of scarabs (a kind of beetle, photo at right), specifically of the subfamily Melolonthinae. In my dialect, Cebuano, it is called bakukang, which is also a collective name for the same beetles and also includes species of the subfamily Dynastinae. Of course, more varied forms from other families are called other names but salagubang is the most common.

Only about the 3rd nice day of the year here and I spotted this guy grabbing some lunch on tree buds. Won't be long and they will be everywhere.

But you prefer it dead than alive...

Found at Padre Island National Seashore Nature Walk. Kleberg County, Texas, USA.

Found on sand just off paved path. It was really windy this morning and this individual seemed to be having trouble flying. Possibly had a slightly damaged wing?

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
