This hopper is of a different breed from the one which I took the last time. The pattern on its body is actually quite nice..looks like an armour.
I showed this picture to a local. He told me it was very easy to tell that this ant was a male, despite most of them being female.
I have no idea how that is.
On a quick trip home to Montana before school starts next week,I had a great time with my grandson examining the bushes and flowers around our home.I never realized there were so many insects in Montana! I guess I just had to open my eyes to a different world. Thanks everyone!
This fly allowed me take his photo as he considered what he was going to do next. I like the cool pattern on his wings.

My son has found them yesterday inside our house, trapped on the windowsill. We have decided to rescue them and release them to the world. The weather was glorious, the temperature was balmy 14oC and Spring was in the air!! On days like these life is good!! :D
