Sommerliches Sterben unter blühenden Linden

Bei meinem mittäglichen Rundgang fand ich auf einem Fahrradweg oberhalb der Uni Bielefeld hunderte von toten oder im Todeskampf befindliche Hummeln.

Natürlich habe ich mich dann im Internet über dies Phänomen schlau gemacht und bin dann auf Artikel über "Hummelsterben unter Linden" gestoßen.

Die Hummelvölker haben sich wohl so auf die Lindenblüten spezialisiert und sind evtl. auch süchtig danach, da der Nektar der Linden wohl Stoffe wie Nikotin und Koffein enthält.

Die Hummeln verlassen im Allgemeinen bereits das Nest ohne große Reserven, welche während des Flugs zur Linde dann schon fast komplett aufgebraucht sind. Wenn das Tier nun an der Linde seinen Nektarbedarf nicht mehr stillen kann, da die Blüten bereits verblüht sind, fällt das Tier vom Baum und verhungert.

Wie ich dann feststellte, befinden sich am Fundort tatsächlich zahlreiche Sommer- und Winterlinden, die verblüht sind. Da auch in unmittelbarer Nähe nicht mehr viele Pflanzen blühen, haben die Hummeln keine Alternative.

This tiny little Carpet beetle is walking down a toothpick.

This caret beetle or anthrenus verbasci is a British textile pest which can damage furniture, curtins and carpets and be present in food products.

A stunning Holly Blue taking a break on a warm spring day. I can guarantee to see these on the Lilac bushes behind my house year on year.

Chances are you've walked right by these tiny, delicate little flowers and not noticed them.....I did.

I could not decide on what kind so I went with 4 different kinds. Reese's Thins, Cosmic Brownies, Little Bites and Hershey's Mike Chocolate all stacked on top of a picture of s'mores.

One of my attempts at the "Macro Mondays" theme "Orange".

This weeks theme is dedicated to the MacroMondays moderator and longtime contributor Hans and his nations color orange. As a relatively new member of the group I don’t know too much about him, however I’ve seen some of his great shots and appreciate the effort that went into them.

I tried to include a little 'H' into the image, that can stand for 'Hans', 'Hallo', 'Hey' or good 'Health' and with that I wish him a good recovery and all the best for the future!
