This tiny leaf was being suspended from a single spider thread. As I was attempting to shot it, it would start to spin.

The Spotted Bee Fly Eristalis nemorum is a hoverfly with a bare black center stripe on the face. It has a very small pterostigma in the wing that is square or even wider than long. The wings are bright. The male has yellow side spots on the abdomen. The yellow side spots may be missing in the female. The rear edge of the dorsal plate of the female is white. The Spotted Beefly looks a lot like the Small Beefly Eristalis arbustorum.

The Pointed Bee Fly has a length of 10 to 13 mm and can be seen from April to October in open woodlands, parklands and other open areas with some shelter.

The rat tail larvae (so called because of the long and thin telescopic breathing tube) can be found in ponds, ditches or temporary pools and also in moist cow pats. Breathing is done through a breathing tube, which allows them to live in polluted water. The larvae feed on decaying organic matter.

In the spring the larvae crawl onto dry land to pupate.

A creature of the forest floor.

What's that? Avec du jaune et du Bokeh en prime. #Macro #WhatIsThat? #HMM

The photo was taken in Rose Garden in Auckland, New Zealand. I went to the garden at the wrong season when most of the roses are withered. I was disappointed at first as almost everything looks dead. But then I chanced upon this shot. It shows so much life, a huge contrast to the bigger world surrounding it.

Interesting Heart shaped Rose leaf.
