This macro captures more of the true color of the Indian Paintbrush I found in the Guadalupe Dunes recently. I love the delicate little hairs on the colorful bracts. Such luminosity!

For more info on all kinds of Indian Paintbrush, I urge you to check out Mark Egger's photostream. He's a fine photographer and the expert on all things Orobanchaceae and Castilleja.)

Here's his ID info for this plant (posted on my previous image): "Castilleja affinis var. contentiosa (not listed in Jepson), a distinctive form of the widespread C. affinis that is endemic to Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo Counties, mostly along the coast, and especially in the Guadalupe Dunes area." Thanks Mark!
