In Italy this is a quite common species and it is possible to find it from early spring to late autumn, in a wide variety of environments, from sea level up to 1700m. It is also common in many countries of Europe, Asia and North America.

This particular scope uses light from the side which reflects through colored glass into pieces of glass and jewels floating in oil. It also has a black bottom and black sides so the light actually illuminates the inside items like neon.

I was so happy to get something so bright from down the black tube of my kaleidoscope. My camera lens seemed to fit perfectly over the optical opening and I used my daylight lamp to really light up the image at the other end. I was able to create some very bright images from this picture.

Queen on Mist flower (100mm macro capture) I maintain this plant specifically for queen butterflies so I always have several around for photo ops
