I'm not usually a butterfly person, but I really like this one :)

Hardest butterfly to shoot... bright blue when opened. When they land they always close up.. frustrating!

Sipreota stelenes. The beautiful Malachite can be found from Florida through Central America to South America. Named for the lovely colors on their wings, Malachites feed on flowers and fruits. The colors and patterns on the wings of the Malachite are sometimes compared to stained glass.

A fairly uncommon visitor to the garden- a gatekeeper butterfly

Speckled wood with a holly blue. Normally the speckled woods are very territorial and won't let another butterfly (or other large insect) anywhere near them

Here's a butterfly in Kenya. I have no idea what it was but it was willing to hold still for a photo.

 

I was having a little fun with my Nikon 60mm macro lens and a couple butterflies from my collection. The textures and details on these creatures is amazing. Each butterfly, when viewed closely, is essentially a pixelated mosaic piece of art.

Some of the butterflies got a bit frisky at times.

I think this is a butterfly. Or maybe a moth? Anyone know?

I swear he/she (do butterflies have sexes?) was smiling at me when I took this one.
