My dad said we should name a caterpillar after a star player on the Cal football team in honor of it's national #2 ranking. DeSean Jackson Jr., named after the electrifying punt returner and wide receiver, is about 2.5mm long. In about two weeks he'll be 20 times this size.

The underside of the Common Blue Morpho Butterfly gives little evidence of the fluorescent colour of the top of the wings.

Common blue butterfly in the garden. Natural light

Yesterday our photogroup visited the Sheep River area in Kananaskis country. This butterfly landed on Kerry's (www.flickr.com/photos/51285784@N03/) shirt and didn't want to leave. Since I had my macro lens on, I snapped a few shots of this little beauty!

She's is not a dramatic butterfly, but quite pretty in her simplicity.

Red Admiral butterfly. Highdown gardens Worthing

Taking shelter for the rain, he sat on our livingroom window. The little fella was only 1,5 cm......

It is so completely ace to see these guys out and about again. Even if they don't appear so pleased to see me. Butterflies: so snooty.

This butterfly was right outside our place on the Janelia Farms Research Campus. I thought it was an interesting angle of a butterfly. This photo was taken with a nikon D50 camera with a 85mm f/3.5 nikkor micro lens (1/60sec, f/11.0, handheld).
