Any locals out there who can fill me in on the story behind it?
Macon's 1916 Terminal Station is Georgia's grandest surviving railroad station. It was designed in the Beaux Arts style by architect Alfred Felheimer (1875-1959), who with his partners also designed stations in Cincinnati, Buffalo, and other cities.
In 1926-27, the station handled as many as a hundred arrivals/departures each day, primarily trains of the Central of Georgia, Southern Railway, and Georgia Southern & Florida. Passengers accessed the train platforms by way of a tunnel under the tracks.
After closing in 1975 the building stood unused several years until it was purchased by Georgia Power Company in 1982 and used as its local offices in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2002, the City of Macon received one million dollars in TEA funds to purchase the building from Georgia Power and convert it to a retail, office, and multi-modal transportation center.

When my wife and I signed up for this race we didn't expect to see elite level athletes at the race. I was surprised to find out that Nina Kraft showed up. Her competition also showed up. Nina took first place by less than 5 minutes in the women's overall category with a time of 4:33:48.

Spent the weekend out of town with our friends (and their adorable Ray) to celebrate their anniversary. We got to spend time touring the town they grew up in - Macon, GA. We loved the old houses and all the history!
Also, the food and imbibing was fantastic, too!

IW Bowen grew up at Brookfield, GA. He graduated from Tifton High School, Mercer Univ and Louisville Baptist Seminary, where he received a doctorate in religion. He was Head of the Religion Dept. and professor of religion at Tift College, Forsyth, GA. until that institution closed. He then was pastor of the First Baptist Church, Barnesville, GA. While living in Forsyth, he probably supplied the pulpit and led prayer meeting more often than any other person who was not a Pastor of First Baptist Church......(Monroe County, A History, p. 232). His wife, Nell Tyner Bowen, a native of Forsyth, GA. She is the author of The Seeking Woman I Am, The Woman I AM and Making the Word Known.....Wester Recorder, April 16, 1985, II.
I can't help but wonder whether every Christmas (after two tragic ones in a row) was ruined for George and Alma Anderson.
Their two-year-old son died in early December 1928.
The next year they lost their nine-year-old daughter on Christmas Eve.
The brother and sister rest side by side in Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. If their parents are buried anywhere in Macon, they're not listed on the site yet.

Built originally as The Academy of Music in 1884. Architects were Alexander Blair and W. R. Gunn. The Grand Opera House, also called the Grand was originally known as The Academy of Music, In 1905 the seven story building was erected in front of the old Academy of Music but the elaborate auditorium was left intact. Seating was 2,418 and had the largest stage in the Southeast. By the 1920's the building was in decline and began showing movies. In the 1960's it ceased showing movies, and plans were made to replace it with a parking lot (Progress, don't you know). The Macon Art Council saved it in 1967 and began renovations. Today it is managed by the Mercer University as a live theatre.
The Grand Opera House has hosted Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Bernhardt, Will Rogers, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Lionel Barrymore, Ethel Barrymore, Bob Hope, The Allman Brothers Band, Ray Charles, and the magician Harry Houdini and John Phillip Sousa band.
