I suspect I'm still going to run the occasional Windows app via Parallels, or Boot Camp, or something. My long-standing 1.6 GHz IBM A31 laptop, my primary home system for the last six years, was on its last legs - the hard drive was making bad noises, usually a sign of imminent mechanical failure, and I needed a new computer.

Amusingly enough, my old laptop seems to be running OK after a day of bad behaviour. We'll see if this continues.

We got this old card catalog from my Mom. It was used in the MIT libraries,. The chair was salvaged from MIT Libraries as well. It used to be in the Humanities reading room. The card catalog makes a great table for the mac mini. It's like the card catalog is the little computer's great grand parent in information technology. The mac serves us as a internet station and home entertainment unit. The movie playing is Brick which I rated 4/5 stars.

Monitor adapter was provided with the Mac Mini.

The difference to the older Mac Mini models is that they didn't deliver Apple remote with the newest Mac Mini (early 2009)... in case someone is wondering.

Xbenchとは異なり、メモリスコアはほとんど変わりませんが、逆にHDDのReadスコアが向上しています。スワップが少なくなった分、ボトルネックがなくなったのか。

Half an hour therapeutic doodling later still don't thing much of the day I had. Still, at least I had half an hour to doodle I suppose. Photoshop on Prometean IWB/Mac Mini.

My latest eBay purchase; The Life Pursuit. Beside the great music contained within, I thought the cover was worth a piccy or two: it's a hard backed affair with a glossy booklet inside.

Removed the fan assembly towards replacing the hard drive with an SSD.

This is how I open a Mac mini. Good thing I still had these from the last time I opened one.

On top of a Iomega external harddisk the Mac Mini holds my music, my films and my photos.

2 GB of RAM and a plastic putty knife later (following this tutorial), I have an upgraded Mac mini (from 1 GB.) I'm not terribly manually-inclined, but managed to do this without breaking anything. Nonetheless, it was a moderately stressful 30 minutes of ginger movements and the occasional "oh shit, I hope that didn't break."

The body is ever so slightly separated from the casing as that's where I started prying, but otherwise the box is surprisingly unharmed.

Just bough a mac for the first time, so far so good

External serial interfaces are probably one of the best things (if not the best thing) to happen to personal computers ever! that includes all the external interfaces out there now, USB/USB2, Firewire 400/800, e-SATA.

Mac Mini's first boot. I would later install the memory correctly and it would work much better.

Here are the specs on my Mini:

CPU Type:PowerPC G4 (1.2)

CPU Speed:1.42 GHz

Memory:1 GB
