Derwentwater, or Derwent Water, is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in north west England. It lies wholly within the Borough of Allerdale, in the county of Cumbria.
The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) long by 1 mile (1.6 km) wide and is some 72 feet (22 m) deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. Derwent Island House, an 18th-century residence, is a tenanted National Trust property open to the public on five days each year.

Derwentwater is a place of considerable scenic value. It is surrounded by hills (known locally as fells), and many of the slopes facing Derwentwater are extensively wooded. A regular passenger launch operates on the lake, taking passengers between various landing stages. There are seven lakeside marinas, the most popular stops being Keswick, Portinscale and the Lodore Falls, from which boats may be hired. Recreational walking is a major tourist activity in the area and there is an extensive network of footpaths in the hills and woods surrounding the lake. Several artistic depictions of the lake are shown on the Watercolour World website, and artist Thomas Frederick Worrall painted a view of Castle Crag from the northern shore of Derwentwater, which is available as a postcard from the two Anglican churches in Keswick, St John's and St Kentigern's.
The Keswick—Borrowdale road runs along the eastern shore of the lake and carries a regular bus service. There is a lesser, or unclassified, road along the western shore connecting the villages of Grange and Portinscale.
Derwentwater gave its name to the Earldom of Derwentwater.
You MUST lie on the furniture and get strange looks from people going by. Why do they give you strange looks anyways, because that's why the furniture is there, isn't it? So you can try it out?
Lying in the 1863 north aisle under a large painting showing Christ on Easter Morning lie monuments removed from the old church. The effigies are the remains of a large monument to Sir Edward Dudley 1632 and wife Elizabeth. They were placed initially in the tower and later in the 1950s restored and moved to the north aisle
Considerably older is a c1200 coffin once sunk into the north transept of the old church. It is carved with a unicorn & lion , faces and foliage . All edged with a dog tooth-pattern. . - Church of St Peter, Clopton / Clapton, Northamptonshire
From yestersday's urban exploration fun. This is the campus' internet café. I just felt like doing a B&W.
Immer ein Lichtlein mehr
im Kranz, den wir gewunden,
dass er leuchte uns sehr
durch die dunklen Stunden.
Zwei und drei und dann vier!
Rund um den Kranz welch ein Schimmer,
und so leuchten auch wir,
und so leuchtet das Zimmer.
Und so leuchtet die Welt
langsam der Weihnacht entgegen.
Und der in Händen sie hält,
weiß um den Segen!

"The Rodeo Caves are a traditional complex of houses dug out of rock during the 18th and 20th Centuries. The technique used entailed digging the slopes in pieces of 2.5 - 5 metres high to allow the creation of different rooms. The dug out land was used to form a platform outside the cave which was used to plant vegetable gardens and helped the precarious family economy. The current renovation of the caves will result in the establishment of a large Municipal Underground Ecomuseum “Ecomuseo del Hábitat Subterráneo Municipal” (made up of 15 cave houses that nowdays have become handicraft workshops and exhibition halls) and a Crafts Market, both located in the renovated caves owned by the Rojales Town Council."
