Das kleine über 1025-jährige Osterwieck liegt im Tal der Ilse zwischen dem „Großen Fallstein“ im Norden und dem Harz im Süden.
Die älteste und bedeutendste der drei Kirchen (2 evangelische und 1 katholische) ist die Sankt Stephanikirche. Die romanischen Türmen von 53 bzw. 54 m Höhe grüßen den Besucher schon aus weiter Ferne. In der Kirche befinden sich viele kulturhistorische wertvolle Kleinode, wie z. B. das Taufbecken (eine Erztaufe aus dem 13. Jh.), ein über 500-jähriger gotischer Altarschrein, viele Epitaphien und Gedächtnistafeln von adligen und reichen Bürgern der Stadt.

Walkenried/GER
Das Kloster Walkenried ist eine ehemalige Zisterzienserabtei in Walkenried, gelegen am Südrand des Harzes nahe dem Dreiländereck Niedersachsen – Sachsen-Anhalt – Thüringen.
Der Gebäudekomplex umfasst die Ruine der Klosterkirche sowie das größtenteils erhaltene gotische Klausurgebäude. Dieses wurde 2006 zum Zisterziensermuseum Kloster Walkenried ausgebaut.
Seit 2010 gehört die Klosteranlage als Teil der Stätte Bergwerk Rammelsberg, Altstadt von Goslar und Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.
Das Kloster Walkenried ist Bestandteil der Welterbe-Route des UNESCO-Welterbes im Harz.
