It is never a dull day within the Lufthansa Group as the group itself continues to receive new airframes, retiring old aircraft and centralising their management structure. The Lufthansa Group is one of the largest airline groups in the world incorporating 7 airlines including 4 subsidiaries within those airlines, alongside owning a minority stake in 3 other carriers.
Late-September 2025 saw Lufthansa Group have their Capital Markets Day presentation outlining their plans for the next 5 years; the group are in the process of centralising their operations in order to get into profitability, they also revealed their fleet plans which certainly raised eyebrows.
During the Capital Markets Day presentation, leisure-subsidiary Discover Airlines will undergo changes which will include the retirement of the Airbus A330-200s beginning from early-2026 and increasing the number of Airbus A330-300s from 11 to 16 transferred from Lufthansa. Noted in their Fleet Harmonisation chart, Lufthansa Group were deciding on whether to incorporate Airbus A350-900s into Brussels Airlines and Discover Airlines fleet.
It didn't take but mid-October 2025 saw Lufthansa Group confirming that Discover Airlines will receive 4 Airbus A350-900s which are expected to arrive throughout 2027 and 2028. The 4 Airbus A350-900s that Discover Airlines will receive are the second-hand examples Lufthansa received from Philippine Airlines during 2022, which do feature better cabins than the majority of Airbus A350-900s currently in Lufthansa's fleet. Discover Airlines will receive the 4 Airbus A350-900s from 2027.
Currently, Lufthansa operates 31 Airbus A350s, all of which are Airbus A350-900s. Lufthansa have 14 Airbus A350-900s and 15 Airbus A350-1000s on-order.
Alpha India Victor Alpha is one of 31 Airbus A350-900s operated by Lufthansa, delivered new to Philippine Airlines on lease from SMBC as RP-C3503 on 30th July 2018, withdrawn from service on 6th January 2021 before later being leased to Lufthansa on 22nd April 2022. She is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines.
