You would not believe the bushwacking I did on the day I shot this image. First, I bushwacked down the wrong overgrown logging road until it deadended and I realized I had the wrong road. Then I bushwacked down the right logging road with the brush and vines and slide alder getting more impassable with every step and numerous slippery creek crossings until I lost the road. The road simply disappeared in the brush. I know it is there and shall return armed with a clipper and machete to make passage slightly easier.

I returned to the main trail and then pushed through head high brush which included stickery devil's club, to the top of the berm above this lake. It was an absolutely breakthaking sight! A brilliant sun was shining on the lake and making the foliage around me glow! A great reward for all that effort. By then it was close to 6 PM and there was no way to photograph the lake from my vantage point without direct sun in the image. In the interest of returning to my vehicle before dark I did not want to do more bushwacking to find a better spot. I love sun stars but prefer to shoot the sun with a branch or something to slightly obscure it. Full-on sun makes it more difficult to capture detail of the scenery. The next image is this shot with an added texture. I like that the texture obscures the dust particles. I include them both and am interested in your feedback as to whether the texture improves the image or not.

View of Lower Falls, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone from Uncle Tom's Trail. Rainbow can be seen daily from the mist. This was taken as a "stock image" several years ago. I would like a "do over" to try to shoot this in different ways. Very early in the morning long exposure black and white is how I see it now. Maybe someday.

The lower falls on the McCloud River, in northern California. About a foot of fresh snow had fallen overnight, and I was not expecting that I'd have to hike into the falls from the road (about 1.5 miles one way through the fresh snow). It was quite tiring, and I was not able to get up to the middle or upper falls as I hoped. But I am glad I made the hike to the lower falls here. It was just beautiful with all the snow, quite a different scene from how it looks in the summer.
