Across the street were several quonset huts, still occupied a couple of years after WW II was over. All the other homes were new construction for that part of town. There was a large elementary school, and just a few minutes' walk away was the outdoors swimming pool (heated by water piped in from natural hot springs) where all the kids at the school learned to swim.
