Coming up for Air.

I love home cooking and blogging about the recipes I try out in my own kitchen. To see the recipe with step-by-step pictures follow the link www.rkhomemaderecipes.com/lady-fingers-fruit-cake-tort-di...

I figure I might as well get the food photos out of the way before I do anything else, and then maybe you'll understand why I am still in too much of a coma to process more pictures.

On top, the amazing crab we had during our last dinner (only one of the four other types of seafood that filled the table, plus noodles and tofu). They steamed the crab with egg in a white wine sauce, and its shell was incredibly rubbery. Instead of cracking it open you cut it open with a pair of scissors, and it was like excavating unbelievably delicious, tender meat out of tires. Moments before we ate this crab it was alive; I salute its spirit. It must have lived a good life, to have been so sweet. The prawns that sprayed their prawny blood all over my dress when I tried to behead them, on the other hand, may have been less virtuous. (Eating a meal in Singapore can be a pretty visceral experience.)

On the bottom, the shallots and tomatoes we roasted in a tremendous pool of olive oil before we added them to the shockingly good chicken vindaloo my dad's childhood friend Victor taught us how to cook on a sultry Monday afternoon. We talked of cabbages and kings over glasses of wine while the curry bubbled gently, and then we ate like kings (not cabbages) until we got loopy and sleepy and all the potatoes were gone.

Godinton is a comfortable, much-loved home; each room has a different feel, a contrast on a theme, not designed by architect or curator but for the taste and enjoyment of those who lived here over the centuries and now for visitors.

Tours of the house are led by expert guides unravelling the 600 years of history and revealing an excellent country house collection of furniture, art, porcelain and curios.

Enjoy delicious homemade cakes and refreshments in the old Billiard Room.

The famous yew hedge surrounds the formal gardens with the wild, Italian and walled gardens beyond, full of colour and interest through the seasons.

Events, courses and workshops are run throughout the year to be enjoyed by all. Godinton is an excellent teaching resource tailored to suit individual needs.

A working estate with lovely walks, close to the picturesque village of Great Chart.

and even though we ain't got money, i'm so in love with ya honey,

and everything will bring a chain of love.

and in the morning when i rise, you bring a tear of joy to my eyes,

and tell me everything is gonna be alright....

love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup, drink it up,

love her and she'll bring you luck.

and if you find she helps your mind, buddy, take her home,

don't you live alone, try to earn what lovers own...

Here you may rent the cottage or tree house you always wished for.

It is a very welcoming place filled with harmony and friendship.
