Built in 1930, this Art Deco-style building was designed by Michaelsen and Rognstad to serve as the 7th Street Hotel, and houses the South Loop Club on the ground floor. The building is clad in buff brick with one-over-one windows, green terra cotta trim, decorative stylized floral reliefs at the spandrels between the upper level windows, arched bays on the fifth floor, a parapet with multiple brick pinnacles, decorative patterned brickwork, a base clad in black terra cotta with large bays and decorative art deco reliefs, and a fire escape mounted to the State Street facade. The building today houses the Club House Studios, an apartment complex.

Sanitation Project encourages Rotarians to Loop the Loop ...
5pm on Friday afternoon and as I drove toward the airfield the rain is just sheeting down. We are 1 hour away from launching 14 volunteers into the air in a glider. It seemed as though the chances of getting anyone in the air to be incredibly remote. Heavy rain, high winds and low cloud base. It could hardly be worse conditions for flying.
An hour later, trusting in the weather forecast to be suitable weather for flying, all 14 supporters arrived at the London Gliding Club at Dunstable Downs. The forecast had indicated that the awful weather would be much improved by 6pm and even sunny an hour later, so we were all gathered for the safety briefing becoming more confident of getting airborne by the minute.
By 6.15 the rain had stopped and the sky began to clear just as forecast. One by one 7 Rotarian volunteers and 7 members of the public were seated in the front seat of a two seated glider and were towed to 2000 feet before being cast adrift from the tow plane and were sent gliding freely through the air.
Once free, the glider pilot put the glider into a dive and went through a loop-the-loop. Often-another loop followed and another. As the evening progressed the last few flyers had the view of a beautiful sunset.
During the event there was a free barbecue for flyers and supporters alike. The crew and ground crew joined in for a burger and the Club bar was open for something to steady any nerves.
The evening was a great success with 14 very happy flyers having enjoyed something special, often expressed as a thrill of a lifetime. The youngest was just 15 and the oldest, well let’s just say he was in his 9th decade.
The volunteers had accepted the ‘Loop-the-Loop’ challenge to raise money through sponsorship towards a Global Grant project for a school sanitation project in South Africa.

Row 7: 6 repeats not 5
Row 8" The pattern says “p/k 9 in the double yarn-over”. That to me read as p & k 9 times. That isn’t correct. It means p & k for a total of 9 sts. Thanks reginaknitsok for the helpful notes.

I got to row 19 and the stitch count wouldn’t match up. Uuughhh. Had to rip back. And with handspun with beads & thread plying, it was not a pleasant experience. Broke the yarn again. sigh
I ended up choosing this pattern because I really wanted a semi-circle or caplet with a wavy/feather & fan body to highlight the yarn. My original thought was the Little House shawl. But it is knit edge up. And I wasn’t sure I would have enough yarn.
So looked some more. Found another pattern. Even cast it on. Only to discover it was also edge up. sigh I suppose that is what I get for not reading the complete pattern. But from the charts, I really thought it was charted for increases. sigh Could have done the math to reverse it. But I cast this one because I wanted something simple where I didn’t have to figure out the math in the first place!
Loved the finished product. Got to row 69 & the following row. Started bind off and found there wasn’t enough yarn left. So I ripped back. Decided to rip all the way to row 68 (so there wasn’t another set of increases.) Knit two more rows in stockinette & then bound off. Only had a tiny bit left.
Really love the finish project. Need to block it & take pics. It is a beautiful piece & my DD loves it.
BTW, I really think my yardage was off. It seems like there was more than the 257 yards I estimated. For handspun, I determine yardage by measuring the size of the skein x the number of strands. Possible I was off on this.
About the center of this massive "Red Rock" formation near Morrison, just outside of Denver, Colorado, you can see a bit of the "Trading Post Loop Trail" that leads from the SW parking lot to the amphitheatre, this is on the back side of "Ship Rock".... This kind of gives an optical illusion, as this trail is rather steep and leads up to monolith rocks that are taller than Niagara Falls, it's quite impressive....
