Could you call this street photography even though they weren't really in an urban environment? But it was indeed candid!

It was a quiet day today, still trying to process everything. Being a parent is by far, the hardest job ever.

On a positive note, although quiet, I was productive. I took head shots for the officers at my brother's lodge yesterday as well as some shots of the installation ceremony. I was able to get them all processed and uploaded for viewing. Huge deal for me because I can be a big procrastinator. How do you think I have time for all the fun stuff I do??! ;)

And another positive thing was that the younger two kids came home tonight from their dad's and everything is cool for spring break vacation. My daughter had been giving me grief about a vacation that I was planning with her in mind, and my son was originally going to stay home, so it would be a mother/daughter trip. But today, the two of them must have talked it out and decided that they would both go, and it sounds like they are actually looking forward to it now. Which is how I wanted it in the first place.

I'm just going to keep taking things a day at a time. I was very close to quitting my 365 project, but I threw on some clothes (wrong choice of t-shirt) and went looking for some place to shoot that wasn't too far because the sun was going down quickly. I came to this barn that I'd wanted to shoot at since my 365 in 2010. There used to be a great old, wooden sailboat on the opposite side that I really wanted a picture of, and I was so disappointed the day I drove by and saw that they had removed it. I drove up in the driveway and walked over with my tripod. Luckily no one came out asking me what I was doing.

Last night I had the opportunity to see Corin one last time before he left Chicago on the next leg of his trip. I took him to two places in Chicago that are very special to me. I thought I'd share with him the happiness that they've brought me. After walking down the River Walk all the way Navy Pier and back, we had a delicious dinner at Star of Siam. We ate, talked and took pictures and had a lovely time. Corin is a singer and I know he likes jazz, so after dinner we went to The Green Mill where we saw a really great gypsy-jazz band, Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan. We sat with a very interesting couple who come every week to see the band. It was a really fun evening!

I was planning to include some of my shots from last night, but I have to do some updating of my Lightroom so I can import the .ARW files from my new Sony N5. Or something. Hopefully, I can get that sorted out tonight.

This photograph shows the U-Boat 110, a German Submarine that was sunk and risen in 1918. This photograph shows a general view of the Submarine looking forward.

Reference: DS.SWH/5/3/2/14/1/86

This image is taken from an album of photographs found in the Swan Hunter shipbuilders collection at Tyne & Wear Archives. The album is from 1918 and documents the U.B. 110 before she was scrapped on the dry docks of Swan Hunter Wigham Richardson Ltd, Wallsend.

The twin-screw German submarine U.B. 110 was built by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg.

On the 19th July 1918, when attacking a convoy of merchant ships near Hartlepool, she herself was attacked by H.M. Motor-Launch No. 263 and suffered from depth charges. Coming to the surface she was rammed by H.M.S. Garry, a torpedo boat destroyer, and sunk.

In September she was salvaged and placed in the admiralty dock off Jarrow slake. She was then berthed at Swan Hunter's dry docks department with an order to restore her as a fighting unit.

The Armistice on 11th November 1918 caused work on her to be stopped. She was towed on the 19th December 1918 from Wallsend to the Northumberland Dock at Howdon and was subsequently sold as scrap.

The album of photographs, taken by Frank & Sons of South Shields, documents the U.B. 110 in extensive detail. The photographs provide a rare glimpse into the mechanics and atmosphere of the raised German submarine.

More images of the U-Boat 110 can be viewed here.

Happy Veteran's Day to all ... especially for all of those who have fought for our country, so that we might enjoy our way of life and freedoms that we sometimes simply take for granted. Let us remember that many have paid the ultimate price ... for their loved ones are reminded every day. On day's like today, I personally try to remember those who have fought, as well as those fighting currently, and those who will undoubtedly do so in the future.

I chose this image to share with you all today because for me a full on rainbow represents hope and optimism - faith for seeing the good in life.

I shared before that Denali in 2012 was full of rainbows. As we proceeded along the park road, I couldn't help but notice the full and vibrant rainbow arching its way across the river's vista connecting both side of the river. At first I wondered if the lens I had available at that perfect second would be too distant or too restrictive to capture it in its full arch and brilliance, but alas, it was the perfect lens, just like it was the perfect moment in time.

This rainbow reminds me that, while all is not perfect in life, if we allow it to be by appreciating the small things in life and not focusing on the negativity, which too often invades our thoughts, our future is in fact full of promise. Much of that promise is do the heroic efforts of our veterans - so a big THANK YOU goes out to all who have served this country proudly and bravely! Though sometimes it doesn't seem like it - we are truly a grateful nation!

Thanks for stopping by and for your thoughts and comments. May everyone find peace in their life today.

In exactly 30 days, I'll be married. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am!

[Anticipation for ODC2]

~ Jim Morrison

I went out at lunchtime to run an errand, not expecting to have the time to take my shot for the day, when I noticed a farm off the expressway before I exited. After my errand I went to go check it out. The farm that I had seen from the expressway seemed like people may have been around, but this farm was down the road and it was completely abandoned. I decided to take a long lunch and take my shot and explore around. I'll definitely be coming back here again.

Then I went for a drive down some dirt, country roads before going back to work and had some more fun. Sure, I have to stay a bit longer today to make up for it, but it was totally worth it. It would have been more fun in a convertible, but I had that flying feeling still, driving down the empty, narrow roads.
