Explore: Mar 29th, 2009 Best Position: #301
Although I originally joined Flickr in 2007, I had few contacts, didn't logon for about 2 years, and didn't know about Scout. It was only in Feb, 2009 that I started to use Flickr again, and got a few more contacts (but weren't they wonderful - thanks). As a result I didn't even realise that this picture made Explore in March, 2009 until 2 months later ...! LOL

Liberté, peut-être le plus beau des coquilliers de la rade de Brest.
Liberté, probably the best-looking scallop dredger from the bay of Brest.

Location: Muscat Street (between North Bridge & Beach Road) The Sultan Mosque was built in 1928 and was funded by donations from the Muslim community. The Saracenic flavor of the onion domes, topped with crescent moons and stars, is complemented by Mogul cupolas.
Funny thing, though: The mosque was designed by an Irish guy named Denis Santry, who was working for the architectural firm Swan and McLaren.
Other shots taken within this district:
www.flickr.com/search/?user_id=84493444%40N00&text=su...
Some interesting facts about the mosque: Its dome base is a ring of black bottles; the carpeting was donated by a prince of Saudi Arabia and bears his emblem; and at the back of the compound, North Bridge Road has a kink in it, showing where the mosque invaded the nicely planned urban grid pattern. Also, if you make your way through the chink where the back of the building almost touches the compound wall, peer inside the makam to see the royal graves. Sultan Mosque, like all the others, does not permit shorts, miniskirts, low necklines, or other revealing clothing to be worn inside. However, they do realize that non-Muslim travelers like to be comfortable as they tour around and provide cloaks free of charge.
On the next street is Haji Lane, lined up with quaint old shophouses, bars & restaurants serving middle eastern cuisines for those craving for an Arabian night adventure and let your eyes savour the trendy grafittis adorning the walls along Haji Lane. Sorry, no enticing belly dancing here on holy grounds and the popular Arabian Shisha pipes has been banned of late. Good thing they did not erase the wall grafittis as proposed by the authorties not too long ago. That would certainly kill the atmosphere of the place totally.

Wallpaper / Fond d'écran 16:9
I recently replaced my aging laptop with a Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon. The boot splash was a boring "Lenovo" logo. It can be replaced when updating the bios (see ittutorials.net/computer-repair/laptop/change-bios-boot-s...). I was looking for an image fitting with this completely black laptop. A contour filter on a sunset from 2016 did the job. I kept the sun from the orignal picture, swapping the colour to the "Thinkpad dot" one.
The logo image size must be 768x432 or less for a 1920x1080 screen, and the file size less than 60kb. I used Irfanview to export my image from png to a jpg, because it allows to specify the file size target.
I also use the image as my logon screen background at 1920x1080.
The image freely downloadable at full size (4300x2420). Like the other wallpapers I posted, it is under a CC non commercial - share alike license.
Finally after 10 years of make over from the old Supreme Court and Cityhall, The National Gallery opens officially on 24 November 2015.

In contrast with what you would expect from a modern city, you can still find a place to unwind with a nostalgic ambience at Haji Lane to enjoy a cold beer or have a traditional middle eastern cuisine. Most of the walls are decorated with wild grafittis along this street... Haji Lane is located in the heart of the Civic Disrict at Beach Road near the Sultan Mosque.
Seen here is one of the many pubs with art grafittis adorning the old quaint shophouses with a colorful nostalgic atmosphere.

Whether it is digital or analog, mini cameras are the most trendy thing happening in the industry. Digital Minox, Rollei, Diana mini, Digital Harinezumi (just released new white edition), etc. They are all in this tiny little promotion happening in Festival Walk and APM LOG-ON.
And yes we are including the Olympus E-P1 too coz it is somewhat a smaller version of SLR. If you missed the chance to grab a Lomo mini camera keychain packaged in beautifully printed film cans, they are now back in stock, talking about 20% the size of the actual camera (hmmm, I did say they are keychains, not real cameras).
Most of us are bored by the strap came with our cameras right, so we've been collecting from Korea and Japan some of the nicest straps ever produced and some of them are here, the rest will be coming to the stores this year.
Friends from Lomo, Superheadz and Fujifilm gave us some very nice supports including some left over film canisters, cute POP and displays, etc and I feel thankful for their generosity and help. Superheadz even shipped from Japan a dozen foam boards printed with versions of the lovely Russian girl character.
One of the pink display took me a few hours to create using films, MT tapes and various products from other departments. If you have time, please do visit these two stores and see if they are still intact :) This promotion lasts for 2 weeks from now on. Hope you like it and able to find some inspirations from it. Check out the Flickr photo set of this promotion.
Note: thanks Martin for the hard work. Get well soon Moon.

Pencil Sharpener Rant - Inkling on Moleskine, again
Yet another week passed seeing nonsense going on in certain poor company-wide execution. Poor logic, calculation and consideration (no those are not algorithms, at all) executed in the name of efficiency and ideal automation. Simply said, replacing human decision with formulae requires deep understanding and serious simulations *before* execution. Now is the stage when a lot more human intervention is required to fix certain poor logics.
Yes I'm a sharpener mining my my own business shaping the future in my own ways. Forcing some nonsense into me and I'll keep cranking until raging fume comes out because I refuse to play nice to nonsense. The day when I need protection is the day I lost my value as a sharpener, as blades are not meant to be protected, they are to shape.
Ok, enough self proclaimed heroism. This is just a quick sketch using Inkling on my Moleskine, graphically rant about my recent encounter with sick things. The drawing was exported to Photoshop using Sketch Manager and colored in a sloppy way. Enough to calm me down, call it a therapy.
Wacom Hong Kong is going to have a press conference on 28th Sep 2011 to announce Inkling officially. Since I'm a big fan of Inkling and still sort of a Moleskine fanatic while luckily being the stationery buyer of a retail chain, I'm arranging a promotion in October: Buy Inkling and get 20% off for Moleskine Sketchbook (large or small). This simulation of store display was done in 30 minutes while attending a presentation meeting. I'm very happy to be able to get support from both Wacom and Moleskine for such campaign in such a short time. It won't be a big hit, but at least it benefits certain stationery lovers who happen to love both Inkling and Moleskine. Let's see how it will turn out.

At the Logon aux Bouef in the northeast of Haiti... In four hours, one might see two or three perched here and there in a tree or some low cover near the mangrove sprinting out for some flying insects... they are present in the scrub as well...

Maison du 16e siècle, sur la place du Vieux-Marché à Saint-Renan
The Maison Gérard, one of the oldest buildings in Saint-Renan, is a cut stone house built in the 16th century. Yellow Logonna stone was used for door and window frames. It is named after its owners, when it was listed as a historic monument in 1932.
No blue today... If anything, this is about that red ring I thought I should aim my nose to.
And no... I have no idea what that rusty thing is. It was quite well attatched to the bedrock.
And yes... I have my logon name written on my cap. It's an old thing I was given when I was somewhat actively moderating one Finnish music website... a bit like a finnish version of mp3.com. It still exists, but I quess most of the action has probably moved to some other sites. Now I'm mostly using the cap under my helmet when cycling... Sometimes I get asked what it means and then it's a bit hard to explain and I'm not even sure if I always want to... :D
The counters suggest that this might have hit the explore... So...
Hello!

Mid morning, Logon au Bouef, northeast Haiti, a solitary SPSA flies and glides territorially to and fro in a break through the mangrove trees; perhaps a nest nearby...

Upon seeing LJ59LXT on route, my first thought was "Surely, its a logon?" But then I refreshed, and it was moving. I grabbed my stuff and camera, sprinted out of the door (got a little bit of exercise done at least) and onto the central line which got me there in time for this photo around the back of Oxford Street opposite Selfridges. I quite like this picture as it also showcases the hustle of Oxford Street in the foreground whilst also showing a quiet street.
