PONY BROWN - My Little Friend, Korean Stationery
My lack of post is only the evidence of more amazing stationery adventures coming up, this time Korean stationery. Yes it was crazily busy to implement yet another successful year of Back To School promotion in city'super/LOG-ON, yes there is the preparation of Xmas 2010 and an upcoming new store in Langham Place in November, but all these melt when I was in Seoul last week looking at the innovations from some of the most creative souls in the world.
PONY BROWN is a new Korean stationery brand only started since 2008. The key character which has no name, gained popularity in our Hong Kong market. According to the creative pair Mrs. Lee the owner and Mr. Oh the designer, the name PONY BROWN is not the name of the character at all, it came from Mr. Oh's birth year zodiac as a horse thus PONY and his love of brown color.
I had a great time spent in PONY BROWN's house, a 2 stories tranquil cat heaven in the middle of Seoul. It has all the elements I love right there, great sunlight, woody, quiet and space to think and relax while connectivity is not a problem at all.
As for why the main character has no name, Mr. Oh told me that the idea is to have people loving the character fuse their life and spirit with the character's attitude, to be bright and positive with attitude. The super cute character has a nick name though, since the series is called "My Little Friend", in Korean language fusioning with English, the character is called "Mylipu" (My Little Pu, "Pu" means friend in Korean).
The most popular items we sell at city'super/LOGO-ON of PONY BROWN is their free diary. They have just released some new post-it and diary stickies which will be in Hong Kong market soon. Lastly, we have worked with PONY BROWN to prepare a super attractive Xmas gift set with very nice packaging for the season, stay tuned!

Solide construction parementée en pierres de Logonna, le manoir est cité dans des écrits de 1453 comme faisant partie du fief de Douar Leon possédé conjointement par les seigneurs de Rosmorduc et les vicomtes du Faou. En 1630 il était la propriété de Michel Le Gentil, seigneur de Kergongant en Landéda, qui remanie le bâtiment en 1639. Une lucarne située à l'ouest fait mention de cette date. Ancienne dépendance du château de Rosmorduc, le manoir du Bourg comporte deux portes romanes, un étage, des combles à mansardes surmontées de frontons décorés et de trois cheminées. Du côté du jardin, une petite tour malheureusement disparue, contenait une vis de pierre.
Snoopy Limited Edition Moleskine Journals
We saw the sell sheets months ago but when the samples finally arrived a few weeks ago, they totally exceeded our expectations, I mean they are absolutely beautiful and thoughtful. You've got to check out the details in these photos I took to find out more.
The covers of these Peanuts Limited Edition Collection Moleskine journals all have an embossed "Peanuts 60th Anniversary" logo subtly sits on the top left hand corner of the cover. Illustration of our beloved characters are done in white paint giving a very strong contrast with the black journal.
I'm quite sure customers buying them really wouldn't want to use them, probably a collector's item for many. They come in pocket and large size, both ruled or blank.
Honestly I wish the banderole graphics were actually printed on the journals coz the look so beautiful. Without them, the journals are like naked or missing something.
The inside of the front covers either has a saying from Charlie Brown or Lucy, while the last page of the journal has a very cute Peanuts family tree. The most interesting add-on for me is the stickers, I wish Moleskine had done more.
These journals are selling like hotcakes in our stores right now, I'm guessing that they are far more popular than the Pacman limited edition, but each to his/her own taste.

Peeking into Peoples' Bags is Now Acceptable
I'm totally exhausted after a week's stay in Shanghai setting up the new store, our first store in China. I did carry a lot of useful stationery tools in a travel pouch in and out of the dusty store where I breathed in and out hovering particles, making props and arranging displays, but here's what's in my other bag which might interest you more.
This other bag is one made by Lomo called Sidekick, which I have magically put all my essential stuffs inside. I can lose the pouch but I can't lose this one so I was seen carrying at least one bag all the time, worrying it being stolen if I leave it somewhere. You know, in construction site, anything can happen. It contains my most treasured communication, GTD and photography tools: Canon F1 film camera, Panasonic GF1 (I used it to take this shot, with an adaptor I can can use the Canon lens on my GF1), films, Macbook Air, iPhone, pens, name card in case, USB finger, watch, Moleskine sketchbook, mind.depositor 3, diary, etc. Check out the flickr photo to see in details. No wonder I needed those RMB$68 massage sessions after work, my shoulder hurts, even now.
Months ago city'super and Moleskine Asia sat together pounding our heads trying to find a better way to present the two series that would be arriving almost at the same time - Folio Professional and 18 months diaries (after the highly successful Passions journals). We took the "What's in your bag?" concept and here we go, showcasing and peeking into people's bag, it is fun. The campaign is still going on, you just take a picture of your bag's content preferably with a Moleskine product inside, together with such a flyer you pick up from our stores, upload to city'super's facebook (preferably "liking" it too) and you get a chance to win a full set of Folio Professional products worth a HK$3,714. I'm yet to see some quality photos or creative ways to do such shots, so do play with us this little game, see who's photo is the best! Don't worry about eligibility, if your shot is great, I'll find a way to maybe send you some Moleskines.

Everything simulated on computer became real to the exact measurement, thanks to my great teammates, store colleagues and friendly partners like Apple Computer, Japanese stationery brands and Korean partners. This year's big hit is of course Apple Computer's great teacher/student offer, Chocolate Rain's brand new Fatina USB memory and accessories, smoothest pens in the world, Korean stationery and our famous Put Together A5 personalized notebook system.
Check out these demonstrations from UNI and Pentel competing with each other to be the smoothest pen in the world. UNI's test platform allows you to pick any other brands' pen to compete with Jetstream racing down the slide, the time it takes for the pens to finish the race is displayed in the monitor behind. This platform is going to be in our Times Square only for a week's time then it will be sent to France for another event.

Whether it is digital or analog, mini cameras are the most trendy thing happening in the industry. Digital Minox, Rollei, Diana mini, Digital Harinezumi (just released new white edition), etc. They are all in this tiny little promotion happening in Festival Walk and APM LOG-ON.
And yes we are including the Olympus E-P1 too coz it is somewhat a smaller version of SLR. If you missed the chance to grab a Lomo mini camera keychain packaged in beautifully printed film cans, they are now back in stock, talking about 20% the size of the actual camera (hmmm, I did say they are keychains, not real cameras).
Most of us are bored by the strap came with our cameras right, so we've been collecting from Korea and Japan some of the nicest straps ever produced and some of them are here, the rest will be coming to the stores this year.
Friends from Lomo, Superheadz and Fujifilm gave us some very nice supports including some left over film canisters, cute POP and displays, etc and I feel thankful for their generosity and help. Superheadz even shipped from Japan a dozen foam boards printed with versions of the lovely Russian girl character.
One of the pink display took me a few hours to create using films, MT tapes and various products from other departments. If you have time, please do visit these two stores and see if they are still intact :) This promotion lasts for 2 weeks from now on. Hope you like it and able to find some inspirations from it. Scription Passport Cover Download
You have perhaps seen in many of my photos this cool passport cover issued by the United Kingdom of Great Stationery and Photography. If you follow my tweets and Instagram feed, I mentioned a while ago having fun surprising the ladies in airline counters and managed to get their cute smiles plus nice conversations.
I would recommend you to print it on a thick piece of paper, you may want to choose one that's not white so that the base color of the paper mingles with the image. To fix it on a passport, simply use a piece of thin elastic string, tie a knot and slide it to the spine of your passport together with your printed cover. Enjoy!

An Afternoon of Sticker Mania - Loving Innovations from Seoul
Being exposed to Korean innovations in my last and 4th business-only trips to Seoul is like discovering yet another heaven for stationery. The people I met all possess a strong will to make things better for everybody. Imagine being blown away to meet 15 makers in just 3 days, you can see how things are all clogged up in my brain, talking about post-trip neuro indigestion.
So I took my time during this weekend, playing with all those stickers I found in Seoul, making use of them as much as possible. One of those beautiful stickers maker is Enjoy Everything (www.e2e2.co.kr). They've done awesome works on making stickers sheets readily with nice graphics for everyday use. If you check out their site, you will find several categories of stickers like fabric tapes, PU stickers, embossed stickers and A4 sheets of stickers with various materials, colors and patterns.
I also went to the warehouse of a luggage and cosmetic case maker called EDDAS. They made beautiful cases and I couldn't resist but bought a special leather case from them, which is not available at retail, for my personal use. The leather case sat at home for a week and suddenly I was able to make it really personal by putting on all these stickers I found from Enjoy Everything.
By cutting the PU sheets following the outline of the printed graphics, I was able to enjoy a quiet Saturday afternoon playing with how to personalize my EDDAS leather case.
This evening I've finished the touch up and carried the personalized leather case to go sushi dining, I was rewarded by dozens of prying eyes :)
I also had a meeting with Antenna Shop in Seoul, one of the top sellers in our stores, they've done some colorful PU embossed stickers as well. I'm expecting them to arrive our stores soon. So there will be more stickers available in our stores! Come check them out.

The is a photograph from the third running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") which was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. This event is sure to go from strength to strength over the coming years. The event has grown from just over 600 in 2012, to over 900 in 2013 with around the same number finishing in 2014. Entry to the race closed weeks in advance.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Such is the popularity of the race this year that registration closed for the race in mid-August 2013. There were well over 850 participants who took to the start line.
Weather: The weather on the day was almost too warm for running which is a very rare complaint in Ireland. The runners were bathed in hot September sunshine for the duration of the race and into the early afternoon. In the sections of the race out towards Clonown and around the Bord na Mona areas there was a cooling.
Course: "The Flatline" ceratinly lived up to its name. It is as flat a course as one is likely to find. A garmin connect gps trace of the route is provided here [connect.garmin.com/activity/199678412] Geographically the course spends much of the race in County Roscommon with only the first and last kilometers actually in County Westmeath. This gives geographically inclined runners the novel opportunity to race in two Irish provinces in one race. The course had distance markers at every kilometre and mile along the way. There were official pacers provided by the race organisers.

Refreshments: An Alkohol Frei bottle of Erdinger was provided to every finisher as they crossed the line. Light refreshments were served.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Traveler's Press - Is "What's in My Bag" Really That Interesting?
Yes I switch gears quite often so in any given day you pick, chances are my bag's content can be entirely different. And that is interesting to me and perhaps to many people too. I decided to do "What's in my bag" posts once in a while but the last one was already August 2009, the Seminar Edition. So here you go, what's in my bag in Feb/Mar 2010.

Midori/Designphil asked me to show what's in my bag back in Feb when they were planning a "TRAVELER's notebook & company" event in Aoyama. Eventually the photo and my tips to age brass items were included in the Traveler's Press which was being sold at 320 yen at the event. It looks like a very interesting event with limited edition brass pen with Traveler's Notebook logo, charms, wooden stand, calendar, postcards along side with vintage goods such as tin can, match boxes, etc. They even have a coffee bean partner creating a special Traveler's Notebook blend so customers can enjoy a cup of coffee with their notebook after the event. As usual, I wish I were there to experience everything.

Moleskine Trade Show Covering Products for 2011
Today I spent a wonderful morning in a great exhibition space organized by Working Unit (the Moleskine Asia people). This is by far the best Moleskine trade exhibition I've ever visited, I couldn't believe I spent 3.5 hours there. The following video was shot and edited on iPhone so that you can have a quick look at what are to be offered in 2011. Better photos will be uploaded soon.
The most waited for and probably going to be sold most is writing series IMHO. Refillable ABS matte black finished, the roller pen has a special rubberized metal clip for attaching to the cover of your M. It works great for both classic and reporter notebooks. Basically you don't remove the cap from the notebook, just pull the pen out and start writing, no need to worry losing the cap coz it hang on to the cover pretty strongly.
Fine tip at 0.5mm, medium tip at 0.7mm, the refills come in 6 different colors: black, blue, green, red, violet and brown. Its a pity for 0.5mm tip, you only have black and blue color to choose from. I personally love the dark brown color, wish they would make it to 0.5mm as well. If you plan to get a few roller pens with different color refills, there is a way to distinguish between them since each pen comes with 24 adhesive labels with different patterns. There is a spring at the end of the pen barrel so your refill is "springy" when in use, it is supposed to give you a smooth writing experience, but the feature sounds a bit trivial when comparing to typical Japanese writing instruments.
Sold separately is this "3 slip-on grips + pen holder" accessories set. To me it looks bulky to carry 3 already thick pens on a notebook, but it works, not exactly sleek but its functional. I can't help thinking about UNI's StyleFit or Pilot's Colleto which can accommodate 4-5 refills plus mechanical pencil in one single barrel about the same size as this pen. But I guess a Moleskine pen is not interested in competing in that direction, besides it is somewhat cool to accept being simple. Well, back to the pen holder, you simply snap the pens on the grooves that's it. Great to carry 1 pencil and two rollers. I hate the rubber sleeve though, how it destroys the contour of a perfectly matched rectangular round cornered aesthetic. But guess what, you may really need the rubber. Because of the clean barrel design, I have a tendency to constantly re-adjust my pen holding position, up and down, up and down, almost like I couldn't find the correct way to hold the pen, that is until I slipped the rubber on. Try and you'll see what I mean.
The metal roller pen in silver feels solid, a handsome matte grey lacquered brass and aluminum surface looks sharp on black notebooks. As with the ABS roller pens, I wish the cap and clip is a single piece of cast or at least looks like one, that would make an even cleaner signature IMHO.
The "2 pencils + cap + sharpener" set is surprise. The 2B graphite at 3mm diameter is actually very good for sketching, the broad cedar wood body gives you a firm grip even without a rubber sleeve, especially when you hold the pencil sketching horizontally using the lead's widest surface. The sharpener of 12.5mm opening operates smoothly. I assume I can use this pencil until its last inch without much need of a pencil extender.
I've covered the Writing series above. For Reading and Traveling series, which consists of reading glasses, booklight, reading stand, backpacks, tote bags, etc., it takes time to actually use the products in order to give an honest review, besides I don't have them with me, so I'll just give you a surface remark :) They all look handsome and smart. Usability and quality, I can't tell.
Now that Moleskine is venturing away from a pure notebook brand, the concepts encompassing these new categories becomes so much more important, in order not to loose focus. I think the Reading, Writing, Traveling concepts works pretty well together, in addition to Organizing, the brand has a sound approach to expansion. This direction also gives retailers much more opportunities to explore new grounds. The past two years we tried to create box sets for Christmas but the response was, as expected, not encouraging, after all, these box sets were just boxes of notebooks. But now it gets more interesting when new product ranges compliment the notebook category, finally some meaningful box sets came out.

Here in Hong Kong, The Little Prince limited edition sold much much more than Peanuts, but I heard that customers in Japan love Peanuts far more than the rest of Asia, which probably explains such addition. 4 SKU will be released, weekly and daily, both in pocket and large size. Cahier also made into the Organizing series, I love these thin diaries, you can be really flexible adding them to your pocket size notebook or simply use it individually.
Finally, Star Wars limited edition! Gee, soon after I posted this photo on twitter, I got quite a number of retweets, proves to be popular :)
We had a great time today in the show, thanks to Arnault and Carlos, the two heads of Working Unit. Always a pleasure for city'supre/LOG-ON to work with these guys and their teams. And somehow in this show, I was being interviewed as a die hard Moleskine fan by Phoenix TV :)

This is a photograph from the first running of the Trim AC Bewley's 10 Mile Road Race which was held on Sunday 1st February 2015 at 12:00 in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland. This race also incorporated the 2015 Meath 10 Mile Road Championships. For the first staging of this event this was an incredible success with almost 800 runners, joggers and walkers talking to the start line. The weather was perfect for running despite the bitter cold temperatures with air temperature of 4C recorded at the start. Some beautiful Spring sunshine helped brighten the day and the roads were clear and dry for racing.

The race started on the Trim Athboy Road (the R154) and headed towards the town before making a left turn onto the Trim Dunderry road. The one mile mark comes just after a Y-junction which the race joins back to before the final 600 meters to the finish. Heading north to Dunderry the route takes a left in the middle of the village and heads west for 2 miles on the Dunderry Athboy road. At the next major junction the race takes another left turning south towards Trim town again. One of the only significant hills/drags of the course happens at around the 6.5 mile marker. Miles 7 - 9 are ran on winding roads with nice hedgerows and shelter from any breeze. During these miles you will begin to see the spire of Trim church in the distance. At the Y-Junction from mile one you have 600 meters to go with a final right turn into the industrial estate and the finish line.
The success of today's race is not an accident. Trim AC, and their army of volunteers and help from other Meath athletic clubs, put in huge work to make this race a success.
Today's race adds significantly to Trim AC's reputation for top quality organisation of race events. The 10 mile road race today follows on from the Braveheart 5KM Trail Race which is held annually in June around the beautiful and historical fields of Porchfields and Trim Castle. Today's race could be the begining of one of the region's largest and most popular 10 mile road races.

But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

This is a photograph from the 4th and final round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 28th May 2014 at 20:00. This was the final race in the 2014 series. A music festival had been held in the grounds of Belvedere House on the previous weekend and there was concerns that the race tonight would have to be moved outside the gardens. However the ground-staff and Mullingar Harriers worked hard to ensure that the race could go ahead and follow it's normal route. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was perfectly summery with beautiful warm sunshine with little or no breeze. Perfect running conditions. The presentations for the end of the league and a vast array of refreshments were provided afterwards in the Cafe. Runners were able to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2014 will go down as another success in the history of this great series.

Moleskine Trade Show Covering Products for 2011
Today I spent a wonderful morning in a great exhibition space organized by Working Unit (the Moleskine Asia people). This is by far the best Moleskine trade exhibition I've ever visited, I couldn't believe I spent 3.5 hours there. The following video was shot and edited on iPhone so that you can have a quick look at what are to be offered in 2011. Better photos will be uploaded soon.
The most waited for and probably going to be sold most is writing series IMHO. Refillable ABS matte black finished, the roller pen has a special rubberized metal clip for attaching to the cover of your M. It works great for both classic and reporter notebooks. Basically you don't remove the cap from the notebook, just pull the pen out and start writing, no need to worry losing the cap coz it hang on to the cover pretty strongly.
Fine tip at 0.5mm, medium tip at 0.7mm, the refills come in 6 different colors: black, blue, green, red, violet and brown. Its a pity for 0.5mm tip, you only have black and blue color to choose from. I personally love the dark brown color, wish they would make it to 0.5mm as well. If you plan to get a few roller pens with different color refills, there is a way to distinguish between them since each pen comes with 24 adhesive labels with different patterns. There is a spring at the end of the pen barrel so your refill is "springy" when in use, it is supposed to give you a smooth writing experience, but the feature sounds a bit trivial when comparing to typical Japanese writing instruments.
Sold separately is this "3 slip-on grips + pen holder" accessories set. To me it looks bulky to carry 3 already thick pens on a notebook, but it works, not exactly sleek but its functional. I can't help thinking about UNI's StyleFit or Pilot's Colleto which can accommodate 4-5 refills plus mechanical pencil in one single barrel about the same size as this pen. But I guess a Moleskine pen is not interested in competing in that direction, besides it is somewhat cool to accept being simple. Well, back to the pen holder, you simply snap the pens on the grooves that's it. Great to carry 1 pencil and two rollers. I hate the rubber sleeve though, how it destroys the contour of a perfectly matched rectangular round cornered aesthetic. But guess what, you may really need the rubber. Because of the clean barrel design, I have a tendency to constantly re-adjust my pen holding position, up and down, up and down, almost like I couldn't find the correct way to hold the pen, that is until I slipped the rubber on. Try and you'll see what I mean.
The metal roller pen in silver feels solid, a handsome matte grey lacquered brass and aluminum surface looks sharp on black notebooks. As with the ABS roller pens, I wish the cap and clip is a single piece of cast or at least looks like one, that would make an even cleaner signature IMHO.

This is a photograph from the 13th annual running of the Tom Brennan Memorial 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held on Furze Road, Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Dublin, Ireland on New Year's Day Monday 1st January 2018 at 12:00. The race route is a two loop course which starts and finishes on the Furze Road in the middle of the Phoenix Park. Participants follow a clockwise, right-handed, looped route around Furze Road, Ordnance Survey and Chesterfield Avenue. The loop course is also another difference of this race from traditional 5KM road racing. The weather on New Year's Day in the Phoenix Park is always unpredictable and today was no different. A particularly strong headwind into the faces of participants along Furze road (between 2KM and 3KM) made this particular section tough going for everyone. There was also a particularly cold icy feel in the air. However several hundred runners, joggers and walkers shook off the effects of Christmas celebrations to take part. The route itself is flat without any noticeable undulations. This year's race had one of the biggest field of participants in its long and well established history.
The race is organised and promoted by the local athletics club Liffey Valley Athletic Club who are based in Islandbridge, Dublin 8 and have a catchment area around this part of Dublin city. The race itself commemorates the memory and contribution of former club member Tom Brennan who won the National Cross Country Championships in 1975 in UCD Belfield at the age of 24 years. A special commemorative perpetual trophy is presented to the winner of the race every year. The race is also of particular interest to those runners, joggers and walkers who are not necessarily involved in the competitive side of road racing. Annually the race is the first of a series of races in Dublin city which make up the Lord Mayor’s 5 Alive Challenge. This initiative by Dublin City Council is now in its sixth year and several hundred runners, joggers and walkers volunteer to take part in five of Dublin’s most popular road races. Dublin City Council makes an open call for people to register to be a part of the programme in autumn every year. The Liffey Valley Club and many other volunteers work hard to make this a very successful event. Undertaking a road race event in any location is a challenging task. However the Phoenix Park presents a unique challenge in terms of traffic flow around this part of Dublin and general logistics. Despite this these efforst by the host club are greatly appreciated as is evident by the turn out every year. It provides a splendid opening of the New Year for runners of all abilities. It is also a fitting 'official' start to the new calendar year of road racing in the Dublin and North Leinster region.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

Moleskine Trade Show Covering Products for 2011
Today I spent a wonderful morning in a great exhibition space organized by Working Unit (the Moleskine Asia people). This is by far the best Moleskine trade exhibition I've ever visited, I couldn't believe I spent 3.5 hours there. The following video was shot and edited on iPhone so that you can have a quick look at what are to be offered in 2011. Better photos will be uploaded soon.
The most waited for and probably going to be sold most is writing series IMHO. Refillable ABS matte black finished, the roller pen has a special rubberized metal clip for attaching to the cover of your M. It works great for both classic and reporter notebooks. Basically you don't remove the cap from the notebook, just pull the pen out and start writing, no need to worry losing the cap coz it hang on to the cover pretty strongly.
Fine tip at 0.5mm, medium tip at 0.7mm, the refills come in 6 different colors: black, blue, green, red, violet and brown. Its a pity for 0.5mm tip, you only have black and blue color to choose from. I personally love the dark brown color, wish they would make it to 0.5mm as well. If you plan to get a few roller pens with different color refills, there is a way to distinguish between them since each pen comes with 24 adhesive labels with different patterns. There is a spring at the end of the pen barrel so your refill is "springy" when in use, it is supposed to give you a smooth writing experience, but the feature sounds a bit trivial when comparing to typical Japanese writing instruments.
Sold separately is this "3 slip-on grips + pen holder" accessories set. To me it looks bulky to carry 3 already thick pens on a notebook, but it works, not exactly sleek but its functional. I can't help thinking about UNI's StyleFit or Pilot's Colleto which can accommodate 4-5 refills plus mechanical pencil in one single barrel about the same size as this pen. But I guess a Moleskine pen is not interested in competing in that direction, besides it is somewhat cool to accept being simple. Well, back to the pen holder, you simply snap the pens on the grooves that's it. Great to carry 1 pencil and two rollers. I hate the rubber sleeve though, how it destroys the contour of a perfectly matched rectangular round cornered aesthetic. But guess what, you may really need the rubber. Because of the clean barrel design, I have a tendency to constantly re-adjust my pen holding position, up and down, up and down, almost like I couldn't find the correct way to hold the pen, that is until I slipped the rubber on. Try and you'll see what I mean.
The metal roller pen in silver feels solid, a handsome matte grey lacquered brass and aluminum surface looks sharp on black notebooks. As with the ABS roller pens, I wish the cap and clip is a single piece of cast or at least looks like one, that would make an even cleaner signature IMHO.
The "2 pencils + cap + sharpener" set is surprise. The 2B graphite at 3mm diameter is actually very good for sketching, the broad cedar wood body gives you a firm grip even without a rubber sleeve, especially when you hold the pencil sketching horizontally using the lead's widest surface. The sharpener of 12.5mm opening operates smoothly. I assume I can use this pencil until its last inch without much need of a pencil extender.
I've covered the Writing series above. For Reading and Traveling series, which consists of reading glasses, booklight, reading stand, backpacks, tote bags, etc., it takes time to actually use the products in order to give an honest review, besides I don't have them with me, so I'll just give you a surface remark :) They all look handsome and smart. Usability and quality, I can't tell.
Now that Moleskine is venturing away from a pure notebook brand, the concepts encompassing these new categories becomes so much more important, in order not to loose focus. I think the Reading, Writing, Traveling concepts works pretty well together, in addition to Organizing, the brand has a sound approach to expansion. This direction also gives retailers much more opportunities to explore new grounds. The past two years we tried to create box sets for Christmas but the response was, as expected, not encouraging, after all, these box sets were just boxes of notebooks. But now it gets more interesting when new product ranges compliment the notebook category, finally some meaningful box sets came out.
Writing Set: 1 pocket black ruled notebook, 1 ABS roller pen with cap
Drawing Set: 1 pocket black sketchbook, 2 pencils, 1 sharpener, 1 cap
Gourmet Box: 1 recipe journal, 1 wine journal, 20 gourmet notes for food tasting, 20 coaster notes for wine tasting
Gardening Box: 1 gardening journal, 1 gardening pocket, 12 seeds envelopes
Travel Box: 1 travel journal, 2 luggage tags
I'm sure there will be more interesting sets to come in the future.
As for the Organizing series, Peanuts limited edition found its way to the 2012 diaries! Here in Hong Kong, The Little Prince limited edition sold much much more than Peanuts, but I heard that customers in Japan love Peanuts far more than the rest of Asia, which probably explains such addition. 4 SKU will be released, weekly and daily, both in pocket and large size. Cahier also made into the Organizing series, I love these thin diaries, you can be really flexible adding them to your pocket size notebook or simply use it individually.
Finally, Star Wars limited edition! Gee, soon after I posted this photo on twitter, I got quite a number of retweets, proves to be popular :)
We had a great time today in the show, thanks to Arnault and Carlos, the two heads of Working Unit. Always a pleasure for city'supre/LOG-ON to work with these guys and their teams. And somehow in this show, I was being interviewed as a die hard Moleskine fan by Phoenix TV :)

This is a photograph from the 4th and final round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 28th May 2014 at 20:00. This was the final race in the 2014 series. A music festival had been held in the grounds of Belvedere House on the previous weekend and there was concerns that the race tonight would have to be moved outside the gardens. However the ground-staff and Mullingar Harriers worked hard to ensure that the race could go ahead and follow it's normal route. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was perfectly summery with beautiful warm sunshine with little or no breeze. Perfect running conditions. The presentations for the end of the league and a vast array of refreshments were provided afterwards in the Cafe. Runners were able to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2014 will go down as another success in the history of this great series.

The most waited for and probably going to be sold most is writing series IMHO. Refillable ABS matte black finished, the roller pen has a special rubberized metal clip for attaching to the cover of your M. It works great for both classic and reporter notebooks. Basically you don't remove the cap from the notebook, just pull the pen out and start writing, no need to worry losing the cap coz it hang on to the cover pretty strongly.
Fine tip at 0.5mm, medium tip at 0.7mm, the refills come in 6 different colors: black, blue, green, red, violet and brown. Its a pity for 0.5mm tip, you only have black and blue color to choose from. I personally love the dark brown color, wish they would make it to 0.5mm as well. If you plan to get a few roller pens with different color refills, there is a way to distinguish between them since each pen comes with 24 adhesive labels with different patterns. There is a spring at the end of the pen barrel so your refill is "springy" when in use, it is supposed to give you a smooth writing experience, but the feature sounds a bit trivial when comparing to typical Japanese writing instruments.
Sold separately is this "3 slip-on grips + pen holder" accessories set. To me it looks bulky to carry 3 already thick pens on a notebook, but it works, not exactly sleek but its functional. I can't help thinking about UNI's StyleFit or Pilot's Colleto which can accommodate 4-5 refills plus mechanical pencil in one single barrel about the same size as this pen. But I guess a Moleskine pen is not interested in competing in that direction, besides it is somewhat cool to accept being simple. Well, back to the pen holder, you simply snap the pens on the grooves that's it. Great to carry 1 pencil and two rollers. I hate the rubber sleeve though, how it destroys the contour of a perfectly matched rectangular round cornered aesthetic. But guess what, you may really need the rubber. Because of the clean barrel design, I have a tendency to constantly re-adjust my pen holding position, up and down, up and down, almost like I couldn't find the correct way to hold the pen, that is until I slipped the rubber on. Try and you'll see what I mean.
The metal roller pen in silver feels solid, a handsome matte grey lacquered brass and aluminum surface looks sharp on black notebooks. As with the ABS roller pens, I wish the cap and clip is a single piece of cast or at least looks like one, that would make an even cleaner signature IMHO.
The "2 pencils + cap + sharpener" set is surprise. The 2B graphite at 3mm diameter is actually very good for sketching, the broad cedar wood body gives you a firm grip even without a rubber sleeve, especially when you hold the pencil sketching horizontally using the lead's widest surface. The sharpener of 12.5mm opening operates smoothly. I assume I can use this pencil until its last inch without much need of a pencil extender.
I've covered the Writing series above. For Reading and Traveling series, which consists of reading glasses, booklight, reading stand, backpacks, tote bags, etc., it takes time to actually use the products in order to give an honest review, besides I don't have them with me, so I'll just give you a surface remark :) They all look handsome and smart. Usability and quality, I can't tell.
Now that Moleskine is venturing away from a pure notebook brand, the concepts encompassing these new categories becomes so much more important, in order not to loose focus. I think the Reading, Writing, Traveling concepts works pretty well together, in addition to Organizing, the brand has a sound approach to expansion. This direction also gives retailers much more opportunities to explore new grounds. The past two years we tried to create box sets for Christmas but the response was, as expected, not encouraging, after all, these box sets were just boxes of notebooks. But now it gets more interesting when new product ranges compliment the notebook category, finally some meaningful box sets came out.

As for the Organizing series, Peanuts limited edition found its way to the 2012 diaries! Here in Hong Kong, The Little Prince limited edition sold much much more than Peanuts, but I heard that customers in Japan love Peanuts far more than the rest of Asia, which probably explains such addition. 4 SKU will be released, weekly and daily, both in pocket and large size. Cahier also made into the Organizing series, I love these thin diaries, you can be really flexible adding them to your pocket size notebook or simply use it individually.
Finally, Star Wars limited edition! Gee, soon after I posted this photo on twitter, I got quite a number of retweets, proves to be popular :)
We had a great time today in the show, thanks to Arnault and Carlos, the two heads of Working Unit. Always a pleasure for city'supre/LOG-ON to work with these guys and their teams. And somehow in this show, I was being interviewed as a die hard Moleskine fan by Phoenix TV :)

The Taos Hum & The Oklahoma Connection
I knew it was too good to be true, I knew it was only a matter of time before they had found out that I was on to them, the insideous secret that I had discovered a while back. The signs were there and I took heed, those tricky government agents weren't going to get the step on me. They found my device and disposed of it but because I have the knowledge, the facts and figures trapped in my cortex of logic, they cannot cover it up as long as I am alive and I get the word out. So I went into hiding, deep and deeper into the realm of non existance, disappearing inside myself, seeking the inner sanctuary of Area 51 LabWerx and built a new device, one more muggleflaged than the last one. And as I was working on it, I have found new material that now associates this structure with ELF and the infamous Taos hum! Oh yes, the plot on this structure thickens. Read on my friends, read on.
Since 1991, people in the Taos, New Mexico area have reported hearing an annoying, low-frequency hum, the cause of which has yet to be identified. Recent reports suggest that the Hum is not merely localized to Taos, but may be a nationwide, or perhaps even worldwide, problem. Some investigators suspect the Hum may be caused by the Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) submarine communications system. The frequency of the Hum seems to be between 33 and 80 Hertz, while the USA's ELF system is believed to operate at frequencies around 76 Hertz.
The US Navy first conducted experiments on ELF wave propagation and environmental effects in 1969, using two antennas each 14 miles long located at Clam Lake, Wisconsin. Experiments with this facility continued until 1976, when when actual ELF communications with submarines were demonstrated. Shortly thereafter, the Navy made plans for an operational ELF communications system using buried antennas so as to be hardened against nuclear attack. This system, code-named Sanguine, was cancelled after studies determined that the system would be vulnerable to nuclear attack. Despite the cancellation of Sanguine, the Navy began development of an above-ground ELF system using antennas 28 miles long, also located at Clam Lake. This system, code-named Seafarer, was opposed by environmental groups and residents of the area concerned about possible adverse health effects of ELF radiation.
President Carter cancelled Seafarer in 1978, but the program was revived by President Reagan in 1981. The revived ELF system employs antennas 56 miles long on the upper penninsula of Michigan, in addition to the 28 mile long antennas in Wisconsin. Each antenna is powered with a 660 kilowatt transmitter. This system became operational in 1987. The ELF communications system used by the United States uses two frequency bands, 40 to 50 Hertz, and 70 to 80 Hertz. The principle operating frequency is thought to be 76 Hertz, which seems to be one of the frequencies associated with the Taos Hum.
The Commonwealth of Independent States is believed to be maintaining the ELF communications system used by the former Soviet Union. The Soviet system was probably in operation as early as the 1970s, and used two transmitters at Riga and Gomel. The Soviet system broadcast at 8 Hertz, and perhaps other frequencies as well. In addition to the USA and the CIS, there is a British ELF site in the Glen Cally Forest in Scotland, and a French system sited at Roshay. Both the British and French systems were due to be operational prior to 1990.
As mentioned above, the ELF transmitting facilities in Wisconsin were opposed by residents and environmental groups. A number of studies of possible health and environmental effects were supported by the Navy, and there was an exhaustive review of ELF-related research by the National Academy of Sciences in 1976.The National Academy of Sciences review looked at studies of the effects of ELF on genetics, reproduction, cell growth and division, circadian rhythms, electro-sensitive fish, insect behavior, bird migration, effects on plants, soil organisms, and effects on neurophysiology and behavior of mammals. Apparently, though, nobody thought to study the simpler question of whether anyone could HEAR a hum from the ELF fields.
Despite a few studies that suggested that ELF fields do cause some measurable biological effects, the NAS review panel concluded that the ELF communications system was unlikely to cause any health or environmental problems. Curiously, the studies on mammalian neurophysiology that were reviewed by the NAS panel did contain some evidence that brain nerve cells could be effected by ELF fields. In fact, it was assumed that ELF fields could stimulate electrical activity in the brain, but it was also assumed that these effects shouldn't be noticable because they would be far smaller than the normal electrical activity in the brain. Despite these assumptions, there was, in fact, some evidence that changes in brain nerve cell response could occur even from very weak electrical influences, much weaker than the normal nerve impulses.
The NAS panel concluded based on extrapolation rather than direct evidence, that neurophysical and neurochemical effects would only occur for electric and magnetic field strengths much higher than those expected to be induced by the ELF system.The National Academy of Sciences review seemed, at least at the time, nearly 20 years ago, to give the ELF communications system a clean bill of health. It's not known whether any follow-up studies have been done since the ELF communications system became operational.Since the frequency used by the ELF communications system, around 75 Hertz, is within the range reported for the Taos Hum, the ELF system seems a natural suspect as the cause of the hum. However, it is not known why the Hum was not detected until 1991 if the ELF communications system went into operation in 1987. If there was a direct cause and effect relationship, one would expect that the Hum would have been noticed several years earlier. Furthermore, the Hum is reported to have frequency components ranging from 17 to 32 Hertz and higher, yet these are not frequencies in use for the ELF communications system. Even if the 76 Hertz ELF system were contributing to the Hum, the other frequency components would need to be explained. Perhaps the 76 Hertz frequency match is coincidental. Obviously, further investigation is needed to identify the cause of the Taos Hum.

This is a photograph from the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon was held on Saturday 30th August 2014 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This is the second year of the event. Last year, 2013, the event commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs. The race was perfectly organised. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each. In total 568 participants completed the race which is almost 150 more than the 2013 event.

This set of photographs includes photographs of the start and then photographs of the finish up to the 2 HOUR finishing time.
As mentioned above last year this race marathon race celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events with some very famous names of the past lining out for that four mile race. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was 568 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles up to mile 6. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was somewhat more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

The is a photograph from the third running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") which was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. Overall Race Summary
Participants: Such is the popularity of the race this year that registration closed for the race in mid-August 2013. There were well over 850 participants who took to the start line.
Weather: The weather on the day was almost too warm for running which is a very rare complaint in Ireland. The runners were bathed in hot September sunshine for the duration of the race and into the early afternoon. In the sections of the race out towards Clonown and around the Bord na Mona areas there was a cooling.
Course: "The Flatline" ceratinly lived up to its name. It is as flat a course as one is likely to find. A garmin connect gps trace of the route is provided here [connect.garmin.com/activity/199678412] Geographically the course spends much of the race in County Roscommon with only the first and last kilometers actually in County Westmeath. This gives geographically inclined runners the novel opportunity to race in two Irish provinces in one race. The course had distance markers at every kilometre and mile along the way. There were official pacers provided by the race organisers.

The is a photograph from the third running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") which was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. This is a photograph from the 45th running of the Dunboyne 4 Mile Road Race and Fun Run in Dunboyne Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 30th of March at 15:00. The event is sponsored by EirGrid. The "Dunboyne 4" lays rightful claim to being one of Ireland's longest and best established road races. It is now a landmark event in the Irish road racing calendar. Henry James once said "It takes an endless amount of history to make even a little tradition". Well the tradition of the 4 Mile Road Race is very safe as witness again today with over 1,000 participants taking part. Today's event yet again showed that it is one of heartbeats of Irish road racing.

The "Dunboyne 4" offers a racing opportunity for everyone from elite international runners, to club runners, to joggers, first-time runners, and walkers. The atmosphere as the race returns to the village at the 2.5 mile mark is one of the best atmosphere's in local Irish athletics as it seems the whole village and associated supporters have come out to encourage the participants.
This is a brilliantly organised race with every detail taken care of to the highest standard. This is to the credit of all of the volunteers from Dunboyne AC, Meath Athletics, and the local community of Dunboyne and surrounding areas. It is a race by which others can measure themselves.
Dunboyne AC also shows it's committment to growing the next generation of athletes and runners in Ireland by hosting a set of Juvenile Races before the senior event. Based on the final mile of the course there are runs for Ages 9, 12, and 15 year old boys and girls.
The race starts at Dunboyne Business Park on the Navan Road (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/RaS62) and proceeds south into the Village and straight ahead onto the Maynooth Road. The race passed Dunboyne Castle Hotel to the left. The one mile mark is reached at the roundabout where the race turns right and heads across the Village by-pass and towards the Dunboyne Summerhill Road. The two mile mark is just at the next roundabout where the race turns right towards the village again. One of the best parts of the race is the atmosphere as the race passes through the village with the crowds adding to the spectacle. The race must now complete one mile where the runners go along Station road, turn left at Mill Farm Road (near Race HQ) and join back to the race start with a downhill finished into the village (Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/GfK0T).

This is a photograph from the 45th running of the Dunboyne 4 Mile Road Race and Fun Run in Dunboyne Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 30th of March at 15:00. The event is sponsored by EirGrid. The "Dunboyne 4" lays rightful claim to being one of Ireland's longest and best established road races. It is now a landmark event in the Irish road racing calendar. Henry James once said "It takes an endless amount of history to make even a little tradition". Well the tradition of the 4 Mile Road Race is very safe as witness again today with over 1,000 participants taking part. Today's event yet again showed that it is one of heartbeats of Irish road racing.

The "Dunboyne 4" offers a racing opportunity for everyone from elite international runners, to club runners, to joggers, first-time runners, and walkers. The atmosphere as the race returns to the village at the 2.5 mile mark is one of the best atmosphere's in local Irish athletics as it seems the whole village and associated supporters have come out to encourage the participants.
This is a brilliantly organised race with every detail taken care of to the highest standard. This is to the credit of all of the volunteers from Dunboyne AC, Meath Athletics, and the local community of Dunboyne and surrounding areas. It is a race by which others can measure themselves.
Dunboyne AC also shows it's committment to growing the next generation of athletes and runners in Ireland by hosting a set of Juvenile Races before the senior event. Based on the final mile of the course there are runs for Ages 9, 12, and 15 year old boys and girls.
The race starts at Dunboyne Business Park on the Navan Road (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/RaS62) and proceeds south into the Village and straight ahead onto the Maynooth Road. The race passed Dunboyne Castle Hotel to the left. The one mile mark is reached at the roundabout where the race turns right and heads across the Village by-pass and towards the Dunboyne Summerhill Road. The two mile mark is just at the next roundabout where the race turns right towards the village again. One of the best parts of the race is the atmosphere as the race passes through the village with the crowds adding to the spectacle. The race must now complete one mile where the runners go along Station road, turn left at Mill Farm Road (near Race HQ) and join back to the race start with a downhill finished into the village (Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/GfK0T).

Instant Reborn event started 2 days ago and quite a crowd gathered on this sunny Saturday afternoon in the store. I felt happy seeing familiar faces who were in our event 2 years ago, lingering around chit chatting with each other.
Interestingly camera people usually have quite decent stamping etiquette, not like those who make quite a mess stamping on the table and wasting so much postcards without reading instructions on the how-to.
The passport book is so much fun and from what I heard, many like the idea and decided to own one at HK$25.
Polaroid collector TM refurbished some 636 cameras and painted them black and white, added "Instant Reborn" face plates, there you go, a limited edition "Instant Reborn" camera for the event, at this stage only 10 pieces are available. A leather/camera/watch fanatic Jemmer helped to add a leather strap too. It also came with a nice cotton bag and is sold at HK$1395 with a free pack of PX-600 film.
I did sold an SX-70 and a few pack of films myself today to a lady who is going to give this as a gift to her husband. I forgot to ask her to take a picture with Dr. Land though, people from the community did this naturally and one of them looks very much alike Dr. Land :)
BTW, Mijonju came all the way from Tokyo to this event, I bet he will be having a lot of fun going through TM's camera collections tomorrow in a private appointment.
Although the exhibiting items are not as jam packed as in 2008, we do have some polaroid T-shirts, poster, SX-70 shutter button, straps, etc for sale. I wish I could have more time to create better contents, but the not so stable PX films did gave me a few hiccups. Anyway, I'm glad we have good support from the community, I can't wait for next week's talk in City University.

Pony Brown 2011 Diaries Arriving Soon
We are very excited to learn that the new Pony Brown diaries for 2011 will arrive city'super and LOG-ON soon.
Most of our popular diaries are already sold out since we started selling them from August, we simply don't add any more dated diaries because the season is ending. However, almost all of our Korean friend's diaries are undated, perpetual, we are able to grab them while they are just being released locally in Korea.
You probably won't see them during Xmas in our stores, but they will definitely arrive in January. Stay tuned.

This is a photograph from the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon was held on Saturday 30th August 2014 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This is the second year of the event. Last year, 2013, the event commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs. The race was perfectly organised. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each. In total 568 participants completed the race which is almost 150 more than the 2013 event.

This photograph is one of a set of photographs from the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon 2014. This set of photographs includes photographs of the start and then photographs of the finish up to the 2 HOUR finishing time.
As mentioned above last year this race marathon race celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events with some very famous names of the past lining out for that four mile race. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was 568 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles up to mile 6. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was somewhat more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Peeking into Peoples' Bags is Now Acceptable
I'm totally exhausted after a week's stay in Shanghai setting up the new store, our first store in China. I did carry a lot of useful stationery tools in a travel pouch in and out of the dusty store where I breathed in and out hovering particles, making props and arranging displays, but here's what's in my other bag which might interest you more.
This other bag is one made by Lomo called Sidekick, which I have magically put all my essential stuffs inside. I can lose the pouch but I can't lose this one so I was seen carrying at least one bag all the time, worrying it being stolen if I leave it somewhere. You know, in construction site, anything can happen. It contains my most treasured communication, GTD and photography tools: Canon F1 film camera, Panasonic GF1 (I used it to take this shot, with an adaptor I can can use the Canon lens on my GF1), films, Macbook Air, iPhone, pens, name card in case, USB finger, watch, Moleskine sketchbook, mind.depositor 3, diary, etc. Check out the flickr photo to see in details. No wonder I needed those RMB$68 massage sessions after work, my shoulder hurts, even now.
Months ago city'super and Moleskine Asia sat together pounding our heads trying to find a better way to present the two series that would be arriving almost at the same time - Folio Professional and 18 months diaries (after the highly successful Passions journals). We took the "What's in your bag?" concept and here we go, showcasing and peeking into people's bag, it is fun. The campaign is still going on, you just take a picture of your bag's content preferably with a Moleskine product inside, together with such a flyer you pick up from our stores, upload to city'super's facebook (preferably "liking" it too) and you get a chance to win a full set of Folio Professional products worth a HK$3,714. I'm yet to see some quality photos or creative ways to do such shots, so do play with us this little game, see who's photo is the best! Don't worry about eligibility, if your shot is great, I'll find a way to maybe send you some Moleskines.

Lomo's Latest Stick Grenade - Spinner 360
Wow, be sure to be prepared for questioning in airports if you bring this with you. The latest and coolest camera from Lomo looks just like a stick grenade, just look at the profile and you can imagine what it looks like in an X-ray scan.
Hold the handle with one hand, pull the ring with the other and release, you get your 360 shots at a price far cheaper than a Horizon. Of course after 5 or 6 spins, your 36 frames run out, definitely a grenade to burn films. You also have a choice to spin the camera with your other hand in a constant fashion instead of using the built-in spring.
The cool thing about this is that there is no shutter in this thing, the ~66 degree lens (with a shooting distance from 1m to infinity) behind the slit is directly exposing film without any shutter leafs in front. So you shoot not by a click but by a spin.
Simple as a Holga, there is just the sunny vs. cloudy setting to adjust for the amount of light entering the camera. The same switch is used for film rewind. At the bottom of the handle is a tripod mount.
It is a bit heavy comparing to a typical Lomo camera mainly because of the weight of the metal hood. In addition to reducing light entering from the lens, the hood is made of metal to compensate the centripetal force generated by the body when it spins. Unscrew the hood and spin the camera, you will see what I mean.
There is a cute lever on top of the camera with a Spinner Dolphin, well now you know why is it named Spinner 360. A hotshoe exists but there is no contact points for your typical flash. It makes sense because a typical flash will only fire when there is a shutter release and there is no shutter on Spinner 360. I am guessing that this is for you to mount your bike headlight on it so you can lighten up your photos in low light conditions.
I've passed along the sample to our new colleague to try so I haven't gotten any experience developing the film. Oh BTW, the film compartment expose the entire film so you will get the cool sprocket holes effect by default. We could only reserve about 20pcs in city'super/LOG-ON for our Travel Photo Cafe 2010! I hope the next batch of new stock will arrive soon.

Moleskine will launch 6 different journals in a series called Passions in the coming February. Beautiful paper sleeves and for the first time in the brand's history each of these journals are fully embossed with a tight texture of themed images and writings. The 6 themes are Recipes, Wine, Book, Film, Music and Wellness.
When I first saw the prototype of the Wine journal, I wondered why the space for wine label is so small which looks quite impractical for wine lovers to collect peeled off labels from their favorite wine bottles. An enquiry was made to Moleskine headquarter and here's their reasoning behind:
At the very beginning of the project, we thought about a “space” to glue the label on each page but then we talked with sommeliers and they suggested us to add other grids (to have more information on the wine), instead of the grid for the label. I can assure that we had this suggestion from very expert persons. Anyway, there are the ruled and plain pages that can be used for this case.
They made the choice to break away from the norm and perhaps people can download and print their wine label a lot easier these days so the space gives you more room to record your experience. As for the paper, the quality is exactly the same as typical Moleskine notebooks.
I took the wine journal to a sommelier, perhaps she is not the type to record anything, the journal simply didn't click on her. I'm yet to bring the recipes journal to an executive chef to see her response, I guess it will be fun. The journals themselves are actually a big leap from the previous Info book, music notebook and story board notebook, much more sophisticated with built-in specific framework for certain passions. You can argue though that this is a completely new concept and draws different customers.
Moleskineasia is now organizing a very unique exhibition to show off how people use their Passions journal, it will happen in 40 major traffic stores in 12 Asian cities. Each participant will receive 2 notebooks, one title for their discipline, one for another passion, call it cross-disciplinary sharing. The exhibition system is said to be huge Moleskine display boxes standing on floor which visitors can flip through huge pages with exhibits inside.

This is the logo picture for a set of photographs from the first running of the Trim AC Bewley's 10 Mile Road Race which was held on Sunday 1st February 2015 at 12:00 in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland. This race also incorporated the 2015 Meath 10 Mile Road Championships. For the first staging of this event this was an incredible success with almost 800 runners, joggers and walkers talking to the start line. The weather was perfect for running despite the bitter cold temperatures with air temperature of 4C recorded at the start. Some beautiful Spring sunshine helped brighten the day and the roads were clear and dry for racing.

The race started on the Trim Athboy Road (the R154) and headed towards the town before making a left turn onto the Trim Dunderry road. The one mile mark comes just after a Y-junction which the race joins back to before the final 600 meters to the finish. Heading north to Dunderry the route takes a left in the middle of the village and heads west for 2 miles on the Dunderry Athboy road. At the next major junction the race takes another left turning south towards Trim town again. One of the only significant hills/drags of the course happens at around the 6.5 mile marker. Miles 7 - 9 are ran on winding roads with nice hedgerows and shelter from any breeze. During these miles you will begin to see the spire of Trim church in the distance. At the Y-Junction from mile one you have 600 meters to go with a final right turn into the industrial estate and the finish line.
The success of today's race is not an accident. Trim AC, and their army of volunteers and help from other Meath athletic clubs, put in huge work to make this race a success.
Today's race adds significantly to Trim AC's reputation for top quality organisation of race events. The 10 mile road race today follows on from the Braveheart 5KM Trail Race which is held annually in June around the beautiful and historical fields of Porchfields and Trim Castle.

But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. This is a photograph from the first annual running of the "Mullingar 10" - a 10 mile road race and fun run which was held in Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday July 27th 2014 at 11:00. Dalystown is a rural parish situated about 6 miles south of Mullingar. The race was organised by Mullingar Harriers who promoted the event. There was almost 400 participants in the event. The race follows a simple 'figure of 8' route. The race starts from Dalystown National School and heads north briefly to Dalystown cross-roads where there is a left turn which brings runners along the L1122 road. The only real cross-over of the route is at the 2.5 and 7.5 mile mark. The race completes a loop between 2.5 and the 7.5 mile mark which brings runners into the locality of Ballinagore. The final 2.5 miles of the race brings runners back through Cloneheigue and the final 1.5 miles of the race is along straight road heading north back to Dalystown and the finish outside of Wallace's Pub.
The course was a mixture of long straight level sections of road with some short rolling hills which made for a challenging but overall fair course. The race took place is warm temperatures with a strong southerly breeze in the face of runners for stretches along the route. However some beautiful mature hedgerows along the mostly rural roads provided shade and shelter from the sun for runners.
This was the first year of the event and going on today's event it will become an annual fixture on the calendar. Clubs from all over the North Leinster region and beyond were represented today. Refreshments were provided outside Wallace's Pub at the Finish line. Well done to Mullingar Harriers and all the many volunteers who helped make today's race a wonderful success.

This beautiful 6" City Lights Earth globe by Fascinations finally arrived our stores for Xmas. Lit by LED, the globe captures the ethereal beauty of Earth light at night as seen from space. It rotates automatically and sits on a mirror surface.
Since it is very difficult to see the true beauty of it in store environment, I took a video of how it looks in my home. There's only about 50 pieces in city'super and LOG-ON, each HK$600, go grab it :)
For 4.5 billion years, the Earth gave off no light at night. Then with the discovery of electromagnetic induction by Robert Faraday in 1831, the dark side of the Earth began to glow. Since that time the glow has continued to brighten until today, the dark side of the Earth has been transformed into sparkling jewel of light as seen from space.
