yea... i change home every other month (sarcastic smiley)
penthouse loft unit in the downtown LA biscuit company building built in the 1920's.
the huge original windows are at a normal height only with a raised platform in the living area. with a shorter average height of the people almost 100 years ago, perhaps the purpose of the windows was not for the workers to look out?
the neighbor below you is separated by 6 feet of concrete floor. original brick wall is probably too out of shape, so they are painted white.
interestingly, both the barcelona chairs and the building are from the 20's.
the smell of biscuit still lingers in the building...
EDIT: after the 5.4 earthquake today (july 29, 2008), news are saying buildings built since the 30's should be able to withstand today's earthquake. this biscuit was 20's...
and, again the news says, some cement buildings in mid wilshire are showing cracks after today and that's not a good sign. this biscuit "seems" to be built with cement too...

New Yorkers with long memories will remember Loft’s Candies. Opened by British immigrant William Loft in 1860, his son George gradually opened more locations in New York City area in the 1890s. By the 1920’s, they were the world's largest maker and seller of candy. But by 1988, the company closed all its shops and ceased business in 1994. 100 years is not a bad run, though!
This remnant of it can be seen on Nassau Street in Lower Manhattan.

I'm at a loss as to credits for the architecture. The loft was in a magazine ad. The tower on the left is a generic building in Tokyo. The left rear tower is my design. Oddly enough, the environment exists in virtual space; at my home in rural Virginia.
