The double step locks at Bunbury. Step locks are where two or moor locks ajoin. You use the water from one to fill the other (well that's the theory). You can seen if you look carefully that we're in the second together with another boat heading up. What you cannot see, is that another boat has just left the bottom lock heading down which we passed actually in the steps! It all got very complicated and I'd have to draw it on a bit of paper to explain!
Visitors to the Ballard Locks in Seattle can watch salmon as they climb the fish ladder. The best time to visit is during spawning season, from late June to mid-August.
Boat locks in Port Carling Ontario. These are a connection between lake Muskoka and lake Rosseau, two of the many lakes in this part of Muskoka.
These locks are locked in place over the Seine by couples who want to symbolize their love here. Of course, at the bottom of the bridge, you can buy a lock. We didn't, because as Steve said, "We already have locks."
