A bunch of locks on a small gate around a statute. Found in Florence, Italy on a bridge. It has something to do with putting a lock on the gate to signify your love for someone. I believe that's what it meant at least.

Panorama from 6 exposures, combined in PTGui. Curves adjusted in Photohop. I was struggling to get inspired to go out looking for something to take, but eventually go off my arse and went to look around the diglis basin. Unfotunately the charcter has been knocked out of that by all he next developments. The nearby locks are still interesting though.

Gatun Locks, at the end of our Panama Canal transit, descending toward the Caribbean.

these are locks right outside of the Uffizi courtyard. Young couples come and fasten a lock to the chain barrier to symbolize their love. The trend was apparently started by a novel.

The northern gateway to the Rideau Canal is a set of locks. The locks were built in 1826 and are still manually operated today. Boats are raised and lowered 115 feet between the canal and the Ottawa River.

Up and out with Bonny at 6:15 this morning for the usual walk round. Although it is bank holiday Monday I decided that I would still go the the locks at Diglis for my volunteering job.

I duly arrived expecting to be on my own. I had checked the volunteering rota and I was the only person showing. I was therefore surprised to see two other lock keepers there already. It was great to meet them and swap our experiences. They usually work on Sundays but decided to come today instead.

We knew it was going to be a quiet day because one of the major river Severn locks was closed a few days ago and needs a major repair. This is an important lock as it allows boaters to do the Droitwich 'ring' (a circular tour of the canals).

Sure enough it was quiet until a lone boat came through. As it turned out I knew the person as Mrs P and I follow him on YouTube as he is a well known boat vlogger. We had a pleasant chat as we locked him through onto the river. He did take some video of us and promised that we'd appear at some point on his vlog.

The next boat to come through was a family from Poland. They had hired a boat not far back up the canal. I asked them where they're going and they said up the river to do the Droitwich ring. They were a bit shocked when I told them that the river lock was closed. The hire company hadn't told them. They had a quick change of plan to go down the river and assess their next move. I did feel sorry for them but they were grateful for me letting them know and avoiding a wasted journey.

After this it became quiet and I enjoyed watching a heron catch a fish and then stay around to see if another came by!

A quick coffee in The Firs on the way home and I stopped to pick up the parish accounts as these had now been done. I'm pleased to say that no issues were raised. Phew!
