Locks on the side of Albert Dock, Liverpool. Always spend time looking at these. Lots of memorials and celebration dates, some going back 10 15 years. Unfortunately, I put my memorial to my daughter, Becky. who we lost 2 years ago. We spent some good days in Liverpool.
Located on the Rideau River, Merrickville is a unique and vibrant Victorian village on the Rideau Canal running through the centre town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the early 1800s. You can also watch boats going through three locks each hand-operated. An organization called Communities in Bloom named Merrickville Canada's Most Beautiful Village in a 1998 competition, and it regained the honor in 2019.

The city took its name from a set of locks built to improve navigation past the Cascades Rapids of the Columbia River. The U.S. federal government approved the plan for the locks in 1875, construction began in 1878, and the locks were completed on November 5, 1896. The locks were subsequently submerged in 1938, replaced by Bonneville Lock and Dam. Cascade Locks is just upstream from the Bridge of the Gods, a toll bridge that spans the Columbia River.
Our canals are quiet at the moment due to the coronavirus lockdown, but hopefully they'll soon be busy again. Whilton Locks is the name of a flight of seven locks (one is pictured) on the Grand Union Canal near Daventry in Northamptonshire. They are also referred to as Buckby Lock Flight. The seven locks raise the level of the canal by 63 feet and date from 1796. Whilton Marina is located close to the bottom lock and was constructed in 1971. It has moorings for 200 boats. It's a cliché, I know, but it's almost impossible to walk by this spot without making a photo.

Having borrowed a Canon EOS 6D on this particular night, it seemed fitting to just go around and shoot whatever caught my eye. Here is something that sparkled and caught it...wedding locks on the bridge. An easy target and one that I was immediately drawn to. :) Discover fun, its fun to discover.

Bratch Locks are a delightful feature of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal situated in the leafy outskirts of Wombourne. They are a legacy of James Brindley and offer visitors the chance to explore semi-rural South Staffordshire conveniently.

I don't really understand the fad, but it makes for interesting photos.

Every one holds a story.
A love lock or love padlock is a padlock that significant other pairs lock to a bridge, fence, gate, monument, or similar public fixture to symbolize their love.Typically the sweethearts' names or initials, and perhaps the date, are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away (often into a nearby river) to symbolize unbreakable love.
Since the 2000s, love locks have proliferated at an increasing number of locations worldwide. They are now mostly treated by municipal authorities as litter or vandalism, and there is some cost to their removal. However, there are authorities who embrace them, and who use them as fundraising projects or tourist attractions.
The history of love padlocks dates back at least 100 years to a melancholic Serbian tale of World War I, with an attribution for the bridge Most Ljubavi (the Bridge of Love) in the spa town of Vrnjačka Banja. A local schoolmistress named Nada fell in love with a Serbian officer named Relja. After they committed to each other, Relja went to war in Greece, where he fell in love with a local woman from Corfu. As a consequence, Relja and Nada broke off their engagement. Nada never recovered from that devastating blow, and after some time she died due to heartbreak from her unfortunate love.

Went with my bud Purple Dude on Saturday out to the Locks and on to Lancaster. After seeing epic light last weekend I was hoping the same would happen and I thought the big guy could throw in a rainbow as well but this was all I got :( Happy Monday :) :) :)
The lock gates are expertly crafted and all made by hand. The great canal walks, 7-mile route combines natural delights with incredible the man-made wonders and has some thrilling views along the way.
Foxton Locks are ten canal locks consisting of two "staircases" each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough and are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
Staircase locks are used where a canal needs to climb a steep hill, and consist of a group of locks where each lock opens directly into the next, that is, where the bottom gates of one lock form the top gates of the next.
Foxton Locks are the largest flight of such staircase locks on the English canal system.
The Grade II* listed locks are a popular tourist attraction and the county council has created a country park at the top.
Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, an inclined plane built in 1900 as a solution to various operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and remained in full-time operation for only ten years. It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create the Plane commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.

Miss Daphne went for a walk in the Dark Forest... she spotted an open book in amongst the bluebells and picked it up, only to find it had a secret compartment with a key inside.
There’s something magical about secret keys with unknown locks🔒

In the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space. The Japanese are keen on their umbrellas - there are a lot of locks for them outside shops, temples, galleries, hotels etc. So you just lock up your brolly and don't have to soak the place you are going into - great idea, and considering the weather in the UK...surprising we haven't got them over here.
The Rideau Canal is a waterway that connects the Ottawa River in Ottawa with Lake Ontario at Kingston, Ontario. The first 8 locks in Ottawa raise the level of the canal 30 feet to the Rideau River, bypassing Rideau Falls. The locks were completed in 1831 and the entire canal in 1832. Originally for commercial use, it is now mostly pleasure craft and sightseeing. This picture shows the close proximity of the locks to the Chateau Laurier hotel.
