Bratch Locks are a delightful feature of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal situated in the leafy outskirts of Wombourne. They are a legacy of James Brindley and offer visitors the chance to explore semi-rural South Staffordshire conveniently.
The canal runs through softly undulating West Midlands countryside, skirting around the edges of Birmingham without ever becoming truly urban. It is 46 miles long and has 43 locks.

Summer
Having borrowed a Canon EOS 6D on this particular night, it seemed fitting to just go around and shoot whatever caught my eye. Here is something that sparkled and caught it...wedding locks on the bridge. An easy target and one that I was immediately drawn to. :) Discover fun, its fun to discover.

There was a nice sunset after a dull day. A nice way to end the first day of the New Year. Looking forward to the year ahead as this is my 9th 365 project.
The city took its name from a set of locks built to improve navigation past the Cascades Rapids of the Columbia River. The U.S. federal government approved the plan for the locks in 1875, construction began in 1878, and the locks were completed on November 5, 1896. The locks were subsequently submerged in 1938, replaced by Bonneville Lock and Dam. Cascade Locks is just upstream from the Bridge of the Gods, a toll bridge that spans the Columbia River.

The lock gates are expertly crafted and all made by hand. The great canal walks, 7-mile route combines natural delights with incredible the man-made wonders and has some thrilling views along the way.
Foxton Locks are ten canal locks consisting of two "staircases" each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough and are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
Staircase locks are used where a canal needs to climb a steep hill, and consist of a group of locks where each lock opens directly into the next, that is, where the bottom gates of one lock form the top gates of the next.
Foxton Locks are the largest flight of such staircase locks on the English canal system.
The Grade II* listed locks are a popular tourist attraction and the county council has created a country park at the top.
Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, an inclined plane built in 1900 as a solution to various operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and remained in full-time operation for only ten years. It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create the Plane commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. My attention caught by some truly gorgeous low winter sunlight and these flowing and impressive locks. Enjoy!
Located on the Rideau River, Merrickville is a unique and vibrant Victorian village on the Rideau Canal running through the centre town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the early 1800s. You can also watch boats going through three locks each hand-operated. An organization called Communities in Bloom named Merrickville Canada's Most Beautiful Village in a 1998 competition, and it regained the honor in 2019.

Miss Daphne went for a walk in the Dark Forest... she spotted an open book in amongst the bluebells and picked it up, only to find it had a secret compartment with a key inside.
There’s something magical about secret keys with unknown locks🔒

It's a cliché, I know, but it's almost impossible to walk by this spot without making a photo.

Rideau Canal • Ottawa
Done for Kreative People's Treat This 353 challenge and using all four of abstractartangel77's fractal images offered up for abuse and manipulation and of which can be found in the first comment box... thanks Sandy!
Locks and railing from a shot I took the other day of the old St. Paul St W bridge in St. Catharines.
Nate (?) and Shari perhaps... hope things are still working out for them.
The Rideau Canal is a waterway that connects the Ottawa River in Ottawa with Lake Ontario at Kingston, Ontario. The first 8 locks in Ottawa raise the level of the canal 30 feet to the Rideau River, bypassing Rideau Falls. The locks were completed in 1831 and the entire canal in 1832. Originally for commercial use, it is now mostly pleasure craft and sightseeing. This picture shows the close proximity of the locks to the Chateau Laurier hotel.
Something different that I stumbled across on my trip to Toowoomba last weekend ...
THE sheer weight of Toowoomba's love for their partners has made one of the city's most romantic spots a safety hazard.
The fence overlooking the waterfall at Picnic Point has become an iconic spot for Toowoomba lovers to show their affection for their partners.
But the more than 250 padlocks on the aging fence have damaged the railing, prompting council to replace it and remove the locks.
But don't be concerned if you have affixed a lock - you have three months to remove and reattach it to a purpose-built hitching rail.
Toowoomba Regional Council's Park and Recreation portfolio leader Cr Sue Englart said the council was not the "love grinch" and a new hitching rail had been set up so people could still symbolically show their devotion.
"Our point of view is that if you look at the fence, for safety's sake, it is a mess," she said.
"The whole fence is going to be removed and replaced.
"We don't want to be the grinch of love, or the lock grinch, but it needs to be safe."
Cr Englart said council made the decision to ensure the safety of residents and tourists and is calling on people to remove their padlocks and reattach them to the new railing.
"They have got three months to get their locks," she said.
"It is not our right to cut the lock so we're asking the people that kept the key to remove them."
Toowoomba is not the first council to remove love locks.
Extensive collections of the romantic gestures have been removed from iconic locations in Paris, the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and Dublin, Ireland.
