Took a different route for my lunch hour walk today and decided to visit this bridge, it's been a while since I walked through here and I was curious about how many more locks had been added in the last couple years.

Well, more have been added, and I think some have been removed. But that's love for you; sometimes it's kind of fickle.

Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

Three Locks, Soulbury, Buckinghamshire, 1 Jun 2019

I've previously posted a number of photographs I took in Hoboken, New Jersey on June 7, 2023, when forest fires from Canada colored the skies along the Eastern Seaboard a brown/orange. Here's another. This was shot at Pier A Park by the Hudson River waterfront.

Passers-by view thousands of colorful "love locks" attached to a railing on Namsan mountain in Seoul, Korea. The practice of affixing padlocks to public fixtures to symbolize love -- which is said to have originated during WWI -- can be observed in many places throughout the world.

“Foxton Locks are ten canal locks consisting of two "staircases" each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 3 miles (5 km) west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough. They are named after the nearby village of Foxton.

They form the northern terminus of a 20-mile (32 km) summit level that passes Husbands Bosworth, Crick and ends with the Watford flight

Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, built in 1900 to resolve the operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years.[6] It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create it commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.”

I spent last week in the company of family, friends and 3 dogs on a narrowboat, sailing up and down the Kennet and Avon canal. One of evenings, we moored by the majestic Caen Hill Locks near Devizes in Wiltshire. This is a shot from that evening.

It takes an hour and a half to go through the 8 locks from the Rideau canal to the Ottawa river (in the summer) an 80 ft change in elevation

And that's what a key represents.

An open door, a chance ....."

Approaching the Atlantic Bridge.

The 29 locks have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km) or a 1 in 44 gradient. The locks come in three groups: this is the middle section with sixteen locks form a steep flight in a straight line up the hillside and are designated as a scheduled monument and are also known as one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways.Because of the steepness of the terrain, the pounds between these locks are very short. As a result, fifteen of them have unusually large sideways-extended pounds, to store the water needed to operate them. A final six locks take the canal into Devizes. The locks take 5–6 hours to traverse in a boat.

Peterborough lift locks, very famous and FUN to photograph! Enjoy!

Fear can be good when you're walking past an alley at night or when you need to check the locks on your doors before you go to bed, but it's not good when you have a goal and you're fearful of obstacles. We often get trapped by our fears, but anyone who has had success has failed before.

Our canals are quiet at the moment due to the coronavirus lockdown, but hopefully they'll soon be busy again. Whilton Locks is the name of a flight of seven locks (one is pictured) on the Grand Union Canal near Daventry in Northamptonshire. They are also referred to as Buckby Lock Flight. The seven locks raise the level of the canal by 63 feet and date from 1796. Whilton Marina is located close to the bottom lock and was constructed in 1971. It has moorings for 200 boats. Having borrowed a Canon EOS 6D on this particular night, it seemed fitting to just go around and shoot whatever caught my eye. Here is something that sparkled and caught it...wedding locks on the bridge. An easy target and one that I was immediately drawn to. :) Discover fun, its fun to discover.
