We've come here 3 mornings in a row this week, as Marnie (my lovely dog) hasn't been very well and we both need peace and quiet and open air - she knows her hill well. We met only a few people with their dogs, all very nice. This is the second one from my new phone (which I still don't understand - limited time to learn new technology), but I'll keep trying !

Spot the two birds :)

For a change, this is a new (outside!) photo, taken just a few days ago at the wonderful Britzer Garten, one of Berlin's biggest and most beautiful public parks (please check my album for more "Britz bliss", if you like).

For better dynamic range, I've used exposure bracketing (three images), pre-processed the images in DXO PhotoLab (sharpness and DeepPrime denoising only), from which I directly went into HDR Efex Pro to combine the images. I'm trying to get away from the annual Adobe subscription, and combining images from an exposure bracketing series in HDR Efex instead of Lightroom is one step into that direction. Unfortunately, whenever I think I can finally leave Adobe behind for good they come up with improvements such as the new "supersize" function (now also available in LR), a ton of new presets for LR, and other interesting stuff (and I'm still used to the LR/PS workflow, and the layers in PS). Well, maybe I'll be ready next year ;)

Extra sliding was done in Color Efex, where I added some "Brilliance and Warmth" and a tiny bit of "Contrast Color Range".

We'll be scattering Susan's ashes on this beach this afternoon. It'll be very emotional , and I hope a really happy time , remembering all the great times we've all spent together. Remember me was Sue's very favourite track by her favourite band British Sea Power, she'd just start dancing wildly the second it started playing. We certainly will remember her always. Brand new from Titans is the Etoile Fountain that can be found now at faMESHed..it's beautiful! The water textures are so real and it makes the most lovely falling water sound..sometimes fountains in SL sound well..... ODD...I'll leave it at that..this one is far from that...if you peek inside the fountain you can see tiny beautiful pieces of tile...texture change for winter and you can turn the water sounds off if you prefer...go check it out!! One of my all time favourite reggae tracks, and a great finale to the Toots and the Maytals gig last night, 54-46 was my number , classic. This shot of the shore platforms at Nash Point is vaguely numerical in it's geological formations so that's close enough!

It's also my birthday today, so we're off to see The Jesus and Mary Chain tonight, I doubt they'll be as good as Toots though, he was amazing!!!

I'll be photographing new insects any day now, and I only got the chance to show a fraction of last year's finds, but here's a beautiful blood bee being bothered by a bombing hover fly as it drank nectar from an awl aster last fall. Blood bees have bright red abdomens, but they do not drink blood! In fact they are sweat bees, and might like to lick the sweat off your skin. Females are not so nice though, since they break into the subterranean nest burrows of other kinds of sweat bees and neutralize their eggs. A female blood bee then lays her egg on the big pollen ball left as a larval food supply so her larva doesn't have any competition as it feeds and completes development at the target bee's expense - a reproductive strategy called cleptoparastism.
