When you top up white handwash with blue, and the white is less dense, this is what happens. Science in action.

This is the clear test. I boil some distilled water and drop a glop of the soap into it. It is stays clear, the soap is done, there are no more free oils or lye in the soap. On the other hand, if it is cloudy, it keeps on cooking until I get a clear result.

One of the soap dispensers in my building had a slow drip. It doesn't look like anyone cleaned the thing in about a week, allowing this soap stalagmite to form. I knocked it over a day or so ago. A new stalagmite is forming--on the right-- but I saw the cleaning crew headed for the bathroom, disturbing this pseudo-geologic process.

I let this batch cook on low overnight, and did the clear test again in the morning. The soap was done, and ready for dilution.

It takes a long time to reach trace with liquid soap.

Potassium Hydroxide. In liquid soap making this is what you use, to get solid bars you would need sodium hydroxide.

The mix is starting to get nice and warm.

When the soap traces, I pour the mix into my crockpot.

This is the honey phase, when the soap is here I leave it alone for 30-45 minutes.

I have poured my lye into the water, never the other way around, it is not safe to ever pour water into lye!

I give it a good stir.
