Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita was a Jewish-Dutch painter, woodblock artist, and designer active in Amsterdam during the late 19th to early 20th century. He initially produced delicate watercolor drawings. However, he soon switched to decorative arts, as well as woodcuts and etchings. Mesquita’s works drew upon geometrical composition, simplicity concentrating on the main form, making them modern and unique. His recurrent themes included people portraits, exotic animals, plants, and flowers. His life tragically ended in 1944 when he, together with his family, was deported to Auschwitz. Two years later, a retrospective exhibition was set up in his honor at Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum. Machine and hand stitching onto vintage linen.
Miner applied using an image tranfer taken from one of my charcoal life studies.
First go at this stuff... seems to pick up details really well.
'Floor' a mixture of gelliplate printing and some old lino blocks - motif is taken from the fossilised tree bark of the Lepidodendron. It's what the coal measures hereabouts were formed from.
45 x 45cms approx
Had a perfect morning - brought my work home and carved the dinosaur print on the coffee table.
The linoleum got so warm and soft in the sun; I could see the design perfectly too. Happy.
Here's what I've been drawing today - design for a custom stamp, commissioned by a sci-fi aficionado. Needless to say I enjoyed every second of it.

A marijuana dispensary from Colorado is my latest customer!
I was contacted by Medicine Man Denver in Colorado for some small stamps they'll use instead of hole punches on their customer loyalty cards. I created this design that incorporates a marijuana leaf and their MM logo, made it into 8 stamps that measure roughly 1cm or 3/8" tall.
The tree slices I use for them come from a couple of different trees; I used Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy, my favorite dark green ink pad, to stamp the design on the back of the wood mounts.
