Some of us wear multiple masks. Not content to hide ourselves just in public, but hide our true feelings, beliefs, loves, hates even at home. If you know someone at work there is a good chance that you wouldn't know them at home.

I've been commissioned to make some large logo stamps recently. Some might be intimidated to print large images by hand, but it can be a lot of fun and the imprint usually turn out great:)

Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita was a Jewish-Dutch painter, woodblock artist, and designer active in Amsterdam during the late 19th to early 20th century. He initially produced delicate watercolor drawings. However, he soon switched to decorative arts, as well as woodcuts and etchings. Mesquita’s works drew upon geometrical composition, simplicity concentrating on the main form, making them modern and unique. His recurrent themes included people portraits, exotic animals, plants, and flowers. His life tragically ended in 1944 when he, together with his family, was deported to Auschwitz. Two years later, a retrospective exhibition was set up in his honor at Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum. Made a stamp of a succulent plant. I love how the pink layer on the rubber makes the plant seem almost lotus-like.
yay! our printing class is doing linoprinting again - I think this is my favourite medium! Today we practised doing a similar image in different ways. next week reduction technique - gulp!

So...this is what this project looks like after carving for many hours.
How long will this block look so pristinely lino-colored? Only until it gets inked up for printing. After inking, the ink gets absorbed into the lino's DNA and, even after all the ink is washed off, the ink residue remains. Pristine appearance post-inking? Nevermore... :)

The completed custom monogram stamp for Sierra, also a part of my wedding stamp giveaway on Facebook. The stamp (right) will be mounted on the wood piece (top) later.
The wood piece (4cmx6cm, or 1.4"x2.2") is the perfect size for the stamp. Super happy with the results!
Test proof with places I want to tweak before printing the final edition.

this woodblock (cut into MDF) is based on a drawing I did on a trip to Ireland - there's an amazing path down to a small harbour where the boat leaves for the trip to the now deserted Blasket isles.
Oil-based ink on Japanese paper, each about A4 in size.
