I think these are Grackles but I couldn't get in close enough to check their eye color.

oil paint and graphite, the theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. Hi Everyone!

This is at St. Andrew's Lock and Dam at the Red River, a popular fishing spot for American White Pelicans.

When you are at the top of the stairs, you can see the water rushing down the dam. It is there that the pelicans line up and go fishing. There are some huge fish that are swimming towards the pelicans. The water falling down the dam is quite loud so the birds aren't disturbed by the clicking of cameras. These are mostly young pelicans. Next post will be a closer up view. I must admit it was rather fascinating to watch from above. It was challenging because the space was barely large enough for my lens.

If you want to see how large some of the fish get, check out this previous post! It is a shot of a pelican with a HUGE fish!

This is shot on film (can you tell?) on a day out shooting in central London last March. It was shot on a 35mm SLR so the aspect ratio was 3x2 when it was shot but everything above the Eye was more blue sky so I cropped it down to a square from the top to contain the main subjects a little more. I know people will be thinking why didn’t he crop it in from the left as well, but I just love that little cloud on the left side!

There are some film stocks that when given good light produce the most gorgeous colour. A favourite for me is Kodak Ektar 100 (I know all you old film shooters remember it right?) which can be wonderful. It reminds me slightly of the colour that I see produced by the Fujifilm 'X' lineup of digital cameras with those slightly paler blue skies and pink tinted clouds. I haven't touched this by the way in post other than the crop. It comes back from the processing lab looking exactly as you see it here.

While shooting blue and silver P42s over and over can be as stale as shooting orange GEs, St. Anthony can at least always present some fun scenarios. As the Builder pulled into the plant here, the yard job appeared from Union Yard to take a cut of cars over to Midway. The yard job yields, while the Builder's conductor goes to push the button, and in the shadows, the UP waits to make a delivery to the Commercial.

So, I see these trees sitting on their hilltop from the freeway every day. They always have great morning light from the sunrise coming up directly behind them. They also see the soft evening glow of the sunset each night. The best view is from the road but I wouldn't risk my life on a California freeway for a picture. I pull off at the closest exit and make my way into a local community. There is just no good viewpoint. I park just off a very busy frontage road and quickly run across to a break in some trees and find this view. I'll have to live with this shot....unless I die trying for the next one!
