While doing a bit of night photography I decided to push the D3s a bit. Normally when taking Milky Way shots I use 6400 ISO. This image was taken at ISO 12800 for 30 sec. to gather as much light as possible. I did need to use a bit of noise reduction but there was considerably more detail in the sky than the similar image taken at ISO 6400 (see inside). Both images were taken for 30 sec. at f2.8.
Next stop ISO 102,400 but I'm afraid I will blow out the Milky Way! ;-)

La Lucas Cranach Haus située au Markt 11, Weimar, Land de Thuringe, Allemagne.
C'est dans cette maison Renaissance (1549) aux pignons à volutes que Lucas Cranach l'Ancien (1472-1553) a passé la dernière année de sa vie. L'atelier du peintre était installé au 3e étage. La belle demeure colorée s'élevait au centre des maisons occupant la limite est de la place du marché de Weimar, en face du Rathaus (l’hôtel de ville).
Lucas Maler, dit Lucas Cranach l’Ancien est un peintre et graveur de la Renaissance allemande. Il est mort le 16 octobre 1553 à Weimar (duché de Saxe).
Weimar est traversée par l'Ilm et se situe en marge du Bassin de Thuringe à une altitude d'environ 200 mètres. Dans l'histoire allemande, la période allant de 1919 à 1933 est appelée la république de Weimar, du fait que la constitution de cette république a été conçue à Weimar et non à Berlin où le climat social était insurrectionnel depuis la révolution de 1918 et la rendait trop dangereuse aux yeux de l’Assemblée nationale constituante allemande.
Weimar a aussi été le centre du mouvement Bauhaus (écoles d'art et Haus am Horn). La ville abrite de nombreuses galeries d'art, des musées, le Théâtre national allemand et l'université Bauhaus. Ville aux nombreux monuments historiques, Weimar a été inscrite par l'UNESCO au patrimoine mondial en décembre 1998 (WHL-846) et a été nommée capitale européenne de la culture en 1999.
Cuando tienes a estos colosos cerca comprendes porqué enganchan tanto. Después de no tener suerte el fin de semana pasado, y en tanto tenga oportunidad de regresar de nuevo a su terreno de juego, subiré alguna más de las que se acumulan en el disco duro.
Trabajar con el 500 fijo tiene sus ventajas (de las que no quiero prescindir), pero también sus inconvenientes (con los que bregaré como buenamente pueda). Mi por entonces hijo pequeño (12 años) con su zoom pudo aprovechar bastante mejor que yo la oportunidad que nos dieron estos dos toros de lidia. Yo, con mi lente, apenas pude tirar algo y me tuve que conformar con ser espectador de lujo de aquella batalla agotadora. El terreno no permitía alejarse porque perdías de vista a los contendientes, así que me limité a disfrutar de la escena e intentar aprovechar "como pude lo que pude". El lugar era francamente horrible para hacer algo atractivo. Muchas piedras pequeñas, arbustos, restos de ramas secas,... un maremagnum de distracciones. Un desastre. Aún así, alguna imagen se salvó de la quema. La nariz de uno de los contendientes estaba ensangrentada y los cuernos de ambos presentaban manchas rojas del contrario, fiel reflejo de la seriedad de estas peleas amorosas.
Estos combates son, sin duda, el objetivo principal de todos los fotógrafos que nos acercamos hasta allí, pero no resulta nada sencillo coincidir con ellos, y menos aún verlos a la distancia adecuada como para poder archivarlos en una tarjeta de memoria. La suerte aquí juega un papel fundamental. A veces duran unos minutos, y a veces incluso horas. En ocasiones los tienes a la distancia perfecta y en terreno atractivo, pero en otras están muy lejos y solo escuchas el sonido de los topetazos. Si duran suficiente tiempo tendrás la oportunidad de llegar hasta la acción, si no ... olvídate. En esta oportunidad la suerte nos sonrió, aunque solo en parte. Los oímos desde la ladera de enfrente. Con los prismáticos los localizamos, muy lejos, pero como parecía que aguantaban nos dirigimos hasta ellos. Primero hubo que bajar de la ladera donde estábamos, cruzar a duras penas el arroyo helado sobre las piedras nevadas y después subir por la ladera contraria, aprovechando manchas de nieve que nos facilitaron transitar sobre terreno pedregoso. Las dos cabras monteses (Capra pyrenaica victoriae) iban ganado altura según combatían. Cuando las alcanzamos tuvimos suerte de que aguantaron algo más de media hora en una zona pequeña, lo que nos permitió hacer algunas fotos. Luego siguieron su marcha ladera arriba dándose topetazos de vez en cuando, midiéndose y desafiándose hasta que las perdimos de vista. Imposible seguirlas por la montaña.

In un bel pomeriggio di fine estate, la piccola stazione di Molteno vede impegnati tutti e 3 i binari di sosta, con due ATR 125 che presto diverranno S7 Milano-Molteno-Lecco e una singola ALn668 che di li a poco partirà per Como San Giovanni.

As much as I love the animal kingdom, it hasn't been easy getting to photograph them. Perhaps this little guy felt like doing his good deed for the day because he couldn't have been a kinder or more patient model.....as I was click, click, clicking away, getting closer & closer....ahhhhhhh.......The Perfect Frog....

SRY 385 and consist rolls through the farm fields of Surrey, BC at the brisk speed of 35mph. 385 is the only operating SD35 in Canada and has it's heritage tied to the east coast of the United States with the railroad Seaboard Coastline.
In August 2015 I was on my island of dreams - La Palma, after a really informative guided tour over the area with many observatories there was a tour in the GTC. A truly moving experience. I have never been so close to heaven.

Im August 2015 war ich auf meiner Trauminsel - La Palma, nach einer wirklich informativen Führung durch das Gelände mit vielen verschiedenen Observatorien gab es eine Führung durch das GTC. Ein wirklich bewegendes Erlebnis. Noch nie war ich dem Himmel so nah.
Das Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) ist ein astronomisches Großteleskop mit 10,4 m Spiegeldurchmesser auf dem Roque de los Muchachos auf der Kanareninsel La Palma. Gebräuchlich ist auch die Bezeichnung GRANTECAN.

A crumbling tholtan ruin and lone tree situated high up in magnificent Glen Dhoo exposed to the winter onslaught with a mix of snow and rain lashing down over the valley. The conditions when shooting this were absolutely appalling and it was one of those rare moments where I genuinely feared for my camera equipment. The air temperature must have been close to zero but most of the precipitation was falling as rain, very heavy rain at that! I was totally soaked down to the skin by the time I was finished and my camera geared for all intents and purposes, may as well have had a bath such was the soaking that was experienced.
I shoot with a mirrorless Nikon Z7 camera which is a 7-year-old body now but still going strong. Conditions like this goes to show the value of proper professional level weather sealing on camera gear, especially for avid landscape photographers.
This photo was an impromptu unplanned image that I captured before declaring defeat and hiking back out of the valley. It turned out to be my favourite image of the day because it perfectly captured the conditions and the desolate isolated atmosphere of this hidden valley. A bone chilling but wonderful photography experience!
