En los 3,9 Kmts. de longitud de este magnífico arenal, sólo existe un paso algo complicado cuando sube la marea, ese pequeño boquete en la roca, a la derecha de la imagen. El conjunto de la playa cuenta con una arena finísima que acaricia los pies al caminar.
La luz del atardecer hace el resto, nos limitamos a copiar de lo que vemos y capta la cámara.

I had previously come across images of this species on Flickr, and it was among the first that we had the privilege of observing in the concealed locations of Vietnam. However, capturing high-quality photographs proved to be quite a challenge. The dark plumage, the shadowy environments in which the hides were situated, and the camera settings all conspired to confuse the light meter on my camera. Fortunately, we were blessed with several opportunities, in a variety of locations, and I was able to take more than 900 photographs of this species. The female is equally striking, and even more photogenic in her poses, but for now, I will limit myself to showcasing one photograph per species.

Já tinha visto fotografias desta espécie aqui no Flickr e foi uma das primeiras que avistamos nos hides, no Vietname, mas não foi fácil obter boas fotos. A plumagem escura, os ambientes sombrios onde estavam os hides e as compensações configuradas na câmera confundiam bastante a medição de luz.
Felizmente tivemos várias oportunidades (e em vários locais) e, à minha conta, obtive mais de 900 fotografias desta espécie. A fêmea também é muito bela e fazia poses ainda mais fotogénicas, mas, por agora, vou cingir-me a uma foto por espécie.

Weithin sichtbar ist die allgemein als Halde Rheinelbe bekannte Bergehalde in Gelsenkirchen, die sich direkt an der Stadtgrenze zu Bochum erhebt .Ihr höchster Punkt überragt die Umgebung um ca. 40 Meter und liegt auf 106,2 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel. Ihre Grundfläche beträgt etwa 19 Hektar. Charakteristisch für sie ist ihr kegelförmiger Gipfel und eine eigen- und einzigartige Großskulptur, die auch aus der Entfernung zu erkennen ist.
The Bergehalde in Gelsenkirchen, commonly known as Halde Rheinelbe, can be seen from afar, rising directly on the city limits of Bochum. Its highest point towers around 40 meters above the surrounding area and is 106.2 meters above sea level. Its base is about 19 hectares. It is characterized by its cone-shaped peak and its own and unique large sculpture, which can also be seen from a distance.

Villoslada de Cameros es un municipio y localidad española de la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja. El término municipal, ubicado en la comarca de Cameros, tiene una población de 348 habitantes (INE 2023).
Está integrado en la comarca de Cameros, concretamente en la subcomarca de Camero Nuevo, situándose a 50 km de Logroño por la carretera N-111, que atraviesa el término municipal en el kilómetro 286.
El extenso término municipal ocupa buena parte de la cara norte de la Sierra Cebollera, que incluye el parque natural del mismo nombre. El río Iregua, que nace en el territorio, forma un profundo valle en su descenso de sur a norte, recibiendo el aporte de los numerosos arroyos de la zona y del río Mayor. Por el oeste, las sierras de Frihuela y Castejón, integradas en el Sistema Ibérico, hacen de límite, junto con la Sierra Cebollera al sur, con la provincia de Soria. En Villoslada hay un centro de interpretación del parque natural de la Sierra de Cebollera.
El techo del municipio es una enorme planicie llamada La Mesa (2168 m) que comparte con Lumbreras de Cameros. El segundo punto más elevado, que da nombre a la sierra, es el pico Cebollera (2141 m), compartido con los municipios de El Royo y Sotillo del Rincón. El núcleo urbano se alza a 1072 m sobre el nivel del mar.
Villoslada de Cameros is a municipality and town in the autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain. The municipality, located in the region of Cameros, has a population of 348 inhabitants (INE 2023).
It is part of the region of Cameros, specifically in the sub-region of Camero Nuevo, located 50 km from Logroño on the N-111 road, which crosses the municipal area at kilometre 286.
The extensive municipal area occupies a good part of the northern face of the Sierra Cebollera, which includes the natural park of the same name. The Iregua River, which rises in the territory, forms a deep valley in its descent from south to north, receiving the contribution of the numerous streams in the area and the Mayor River. To the west, the Frihuela and Castejón mountain ranges, integrated into the Iberian System, form a limit, together with the Sierra Cebollera to the south, with the province of Soria. In Villoslada there is an interpretation centre for the Sierra de Cebollera natural park.
The highest point of the municipality is a huge plain called La Mesa (2168 m) which it shares with Lumbreras de Cameros. The second highest point, which gives its name to the mountain range, is the Cebollera peak (2141 m), shared with the municipalities of El Royo and Sotillo del Rincón. Le menhir d'Ozo est situé entre les villages d'Ozo et Izier. A son emplacement, le substrat géologique est constitué de siltite alors que le bloc lui-même est en poudingue. Avant la fouille, la pierre était couchée sur le flanc et dépassait la surface du sol d'une vingtaine de centimètres. La fouille s'est déroulée en mai et juin 1999, effectuée par l'équipe de la Direction de l'Archéologie du Ministère de la Région wallonne et de l'asbl Association wallonne d'Etudes mégalithiques.
A l'issue de la fouille, divers fragments de la pointe du menhir, trouvés en cours de fouille, ont été recollés, quelques fissures (consécutives à la tentative de destruction) fragilisant le monument ont été rebouchées avec une résine époxy très fluide. Le menhir a alors été redressé avec une grue dans sa fosse d'érection primitive. Lors de sa mise en place, il tenait tout seul, bien droit, dans sa fosse d'érection, ce qui n'était le cas ni à Heyd ni à Morville. Vu la position de la pierre d'Ozo à l'extrémité du champ mégalithique, ne pourrait-on voir là un signe des progrès accomplis par les constructeurs de mégalithes au fur et à mesure de l'extension des alignements vers le nord ?
Ainsi, le menhir d'Ozo atteint 6,5 tonnes. Haut de 3,40 m, sa silhouette trapézoïdale s'apparente à la forme dite en "Zeupire". Il marque actuellement la limite septentrionale du champ mégalithique de Wéris, étant le seul monument situé sur la rive droite de l'Aisne (il porte le n° 27 dans la classification des menhirs de Wéris). Sa relation avec les autres monuments n'est pas clairement établie, car il ne s'insère dans aucun des alignements connus. Il pourrait déterminer un axe -pas strictement parallèle aux autres alignements- avec le Thier de Sel, à l'autre extrémité du champ mégalithique. Le menhir d'Ozo est cependant visible de la Pierre Haina. Le matériel archéologique découvert lors de la fouille se limite à de rares silex, déchets de taille et à quelques petits tessons grossiers.

Sunrise at a 5 star lodge accommodation near Te Anau. My wife found a deal on the internet! You might notice the "grain" (noise) where I extracted as much shadow detail as I could from a single RAW file (and forgot to turn down the ISO after astro shots the night before). In hindsight I could have taken a second shot to get the foreground but there we are. Have a great Thursday (8 17 am here) and thanks for visiting.
A tower optical viewfinder and a Southern California sunrise from the pier. These coin operated binoculars stand waiting for guests to peer into. What I find amusing is the wide expanse of beauty all around compared to the limits of what this machine can do.

Nous sommes à la limite de Valserres, et avons pénétré depuis quelques dizaines de mètres sur le territoire communal de Remollon. Non loin de la chapelle Saint-Maurice, perchée à 1360 mètres, un belvédère a été aménagé sur un rocher surplombant le vide. De ce remarquable point de vue nous plongeons le regard sur la vallée de la Durance, 740 mètres plus bas. On distingue les exploitations arboricoles, sur la rive droite de la Durance, et deux des Trois-Lacs sur l'autre rive. Le village de Remollon apparaît nettement, tandis que Rochebrune, de l'autre côté de la rivière, s'efface quelque peu dans le lointain. Le massif montagneux à l'horizon, tout à gauche de la photo, en partie estompé par les nuages, est le Morgon, qui domine le lac de Serre-Ponçon.
Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Vizcaya, País Vasco, España.
Gaztelugatxe es un islote de la localidad vizcaína de Bermeo, País Vasco, España. Está unido al continente por un puente de dos arcos. Sobre la isla hay una ermita dedicada a San Juan que data del siglo X, aunque algunos descubrimientos datan del siglo IX. Dicha ermita se edificó sobre los restos de un castillo adscrito al Reino de Navarra y que fue asediado, sin ser tomado, por las tropas castellanas. Junto con otra pequeña isla vecina, la de Aqueche, forma un biotopo protegido, que se extiende desde la localidad de Baquio hasta el cabo Machichaco en Bermeo, en el golfo de Vizcaya.
La costa vizcaína en este lugar es agreste. El mar trabaja sin cesar erosionando la roca, areniscas y duras calizas de arrecife, y tallando en ella túneles, arcos y cuevas. La isla de Gaztelugache es el corazón de este interesante tramo de costa, junto con la pequeña isla de los conejos, la isla de Akatx, paraíso de las aves marinas.
Sobre la isla de Gaztelugache hay una ermita consagrada a San Juan. Junto a la ermita hay un pequeño refugio que permite protegerse del viento y poder realizar una merienda disfrutando del mar y de las aves que anidan en estos lares.
El acceso es espectacular. Un estrecho camino que parte de tierra firme y cruza sobre las rocas por un puente de piedra permite llegar hasta la zona superior del islote después de ascender 241 escalones. El camino se encuentra asimismo jalonado con las sucesivas estaciones de un Viacrucis. Suele ser tradición entre los caminantes tocar la campana de la ermita, como símbolo por el esfuerzo realizado, una vez ascendidos los 241 escalones.3 El esfuerzo merece la pena.
El islote está atravesado por túneles y hay numerosos arcos. A sus lados se abren playas de piedra que suelen ser muy utilizadas por los buceadores.
La costa, acantilada, está cubierta de vegetación. Destaca en esta el endemismo vasco y el acebuche y sobre ellos hay árgomas, encinas y brezos. En el mar, de fondos rocosos, existen praderas de algas, con especies como las laminarias o saccorhizas. La población piscícola es la típica del Cantábrico, donde abundan lubinas, fanecas, congrios o chicharros, y se completa con babosas, carraspios, julias e invertebrados como actinias, erizos, holoturias, pulpos, nécoras y centollos, además de los percebes que se encaraman en la roca.
Las aves marinas son muy abundantes. La existencia de espacios amplios, como la isla de Aqueche a la que solo se pueden acceder por mar, hacen que puedan reproducirse con tranquilidad. Entre las aves que crían aquí destaca, por su rareza y pequeño tamaño, el paíño común. Abundan además, las gaviotas patiamarilla, los cormoranes moñudos y las palomas bravías.
Aunque hay frecuentes discrepancias respecto a qué municipio pertenece el istmo de Gaztelugache, este se encuentra dentro de los límites de la Villa de Bermeo.
Gaztelugatxe is an islet in the Vizcaya town of Bermeo, Basque Country, Spain. It is linked to the mainland by a two-arch bridge. On the island there is a hermitage dedicated to San Juan that dates from the 10th century, although some discoveries date from the 9th century. Said hermitage was built on the remains of a castle attached to the Kingdom of Navarra and which was besieged, without being taken, by Castilian troops. Together with another small neighboring island, that of Aqueche, it forms a protected biotope, which extends from the town of Baquio to Cape Machichaco in Bermeo, in the Bay of Biscay.
The Biscayan coast in this place is wild. The sea works incessantly eroding the rock, sandstone and hard reef limestone, and carving tunnels, arches and caves in it. The island of Gaztelugache is the heart of this interesting stretch of coast, together with the small island of rabbits, the island of Akatx, a paradise for seabirds.
On the island of Gaztelugache there is a hermitage consecrated to San Juan. Next to the hermitage there is a small shelter that allows you to protect yourself from the wind and to be able to have a snack enjoying the sea and the birds that nest in these parts.
The access is spectacular. A narrow path that starts from the mainland and crosses over the rocks by a stone bridge allows you to reach the upper part of the islet after climbing 241 steps. The road is also marked out with the successive stations of a Via Crucis. It is usually a tradition among walkers to ring the hermitage bell, as a symbol of the effort made, once the 241 steps have been ascended.3 The effort is worth it.
The islet is crossed by tunnels and there are numerous arches. On its sides there are stone beaches that are often used by divers.
The coast, steep, is covered with vegetation. The Basque endemism and the wild olive tree stand out in this area, and on top of them there are gorse, holm oaks and heather. In the sea, with rocky bottoms, there are seaweed meadows, with species such as laminarias or saccorhizas. The fish population is typical of the Cantabrian Sea, where sea bass, pouts, conger eels or mackerels abound, and is completed with slugs, carraspios, julias and invertebrates such as actinia, sea urchins, holothurians, octopus, crabs and spider crabs, as well as barnacles that perch on the rock.
Sea birds are very abundant. The existence of wide spaces, such as the island of Aqueche, which can only be accessed by sea, means that they can reproduce with ease. Among the birds that breed here, due to its rarity and small size, the common storm petrel stands out. There are also plenty of yellow-legged gulls, shags and rock doves.
Although there are frequent discrepancies regarding which municipality the Gaztelugache isthmus belongs to, it is within the limits of the Villa de Bermeo.
Por la carretera hacia Hecho, pasado Embún, nos encontramos con el rio Oria que forma el valle donde se asientan Jasa y Aragües del Puerto. Esa estrecha y pintoresca carretera, con abundantes bosques de variada vegetación, acaba en un amplio aparcamiento junto al refugio de Lizara y la mole calcárea del macizo de Bisaurín que lo preside. Un encuadre fotográfico de gran belleza. Allí, en el colmado aparcamiento nos dejó el autobús a los 26 senderistas bien dispuestos a disfrutar y ponernos otra vez en forma.
Por detrás del refugio una pista sube al collado del Foratón, a nuestra izquierda, que nos llevaría al valle de Hecho. Superando el collado del Bozo, el de nuestra derecha, entraríamos en el valle de Aisa, pero nosotros debemos tomar una senda que nos indica al Valle de los Sarrios y que se introduce por el Barranco del Puerto pasando bajo los paredones del Bisaurín y las Fetas.
La agreste canal se va superando por alguna zona herbosa que alterna con otras pedregosas, fáciles de caminar pues el terreno es bastante estable y las piedras pequeñas. Al alcanzar el abrupto y llamativo peñasco que parecía cerrarnos el paso, la subida se suaviza y volvemos a caminar entre soleados pastizales. En uno de ellos almorzamos.
De nuevo la senda gana altura entre lazadas y nos lleva a un curioso refugio por su forma y estructura. Todo se aclara cuando alguien dice que en su tiempo fue un cuartel de carabineros que controlaba el paso por la zona pues cerca de aquí esta el ibón de Estanés que limita con Francia.
Muy poco después un amplio circo glacial se presenta ante nosotros: Plana Mistresa. A la izquierda el collado de Secús, de frente la muralla pétrea de Bernera y a la derecha una senda sube con suavidad en dirección a la escarpada sierra de Olibón que conforma la cabecera del llamativo Valle de los Sarrios. Pero este recorrido lo dejamos para otra ocasión.
