a quick snapshot before bedtime.

Maybe it’s ok to rest, to cry, to acknowledge that you’re not ok, to recognize what you’re feeling (when it’s possible to notice), to allow yourself to grieve, to care for yourself. It makes sense that carrying out these necessary and important actions is unfamiliar, challenging and even scary for you. And you are surviving, growing, learning and healing through working to listen to and do what you can to meet your needs even though it’s not easy—a true victory.

My soft blanket and pillow where I have spent countless hours. The light shining onto the wrinkled pillowcase caught my eye so I took a quick picture with my phone.

After a days work, I exit after a heavy rain to find steam rising and the sun setting.

I think White Pocket would look fantastic under any conditions but it’s truly spectacular with a bright sunset peaking over the rocks and the brilliant sun truly illuminating the deep colors and hues of the landscape.

Ambling along the slick rock ridge of White Pocket at sunset is an exercise in walking amount colors.

Coyote Buttes South really is one of those places that defies the imagination. How could natural forces make something that looks so sculpted and perfect?

For World Photography Day- a word of thanks. Thankfulness for a wide world of wonders to capture in the shutter of my camera and thankfulness for having my art appreciated.

Great view of the cathedral down Cathedral Lane

“Don’t shoot in bright sunlight and with intense shadows!!!”

Okay, but then how do you accurately capture the intensity of the desert? And these colors? And this light?

Do what you want.

A Utah and Arizona, you are in the Navajo Nation. In Navajo, sacred land is referred to as Diné Bikéyah. This land belongs to the people. Hopitutskwa, Pueblos, and Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) land is also found across these two states and at archeological sites and natural sites. It is an honor to see them. White Pocket is most closely associated with Southern Paiute land.

#Allpubliclandsmatter! Zion is celebrating an anniversary today and it wouldn’t be if it didn’t achieve National Monument status before it ever became a National Park. 116 years of grandeur, no matter what the designation is!

- In Zion, you are on Pueblos and Southern Paiute land. Zion’s native name is Mukuntuweap. Zion is the name given to the canyon by American explorers.

Not many castles boast a door knocker, but Dunster Castle does.

It's no secret I like bright and colorful scenes. Here you can see before and after my editing in Lightroom Mobile. The top is the out of camera JPEG, the bottom is the one I posted yesterday. Shot with Sony a6000 and kit lens.

I spotted this plant on the slop leading to a cliff. So I laid on my stomach and moved as close to the subject as I could. Lesson 1 use a longer lens, lesson 2 have someone with you. I panicked a bit when I started to slide towards the edge.

Seen On My Walk

Moritzburg Castle (German: Schloss Moritzburg) or Moritzburg Palace is a Baroque palace in Moritzburg, in the German state of Saxony, about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) northwest of the Saxon capital, Dresden. The castle has four round towers and lies on a symmetrical artificial island. It is named after Duke Moritz of Saxony, who had a hunting lodge built there between 1542 and 1546.

Last nights view from my hotel bedroom

St Asaph Cathedral is reputed to be the smallest ancient Cathedral in Britain. St Asaph is the second smallest city in Wales, Following St David’s in Pembrokeshire.

My youngest beagle hoping to join in with a meal. Adobe had just released a version of Lightroom CC for the iPad and this picture is the result of a bit of practice.

The black-winged stilt is a black and white wading bird with incredibly long legs. They live in a variety of wetlands, from marshes to coastal lagoons. They wade through the water, plucking insects from the surface. Their incredibly long legs (around 60% of their height) allow them to walk through deeper water than other wading birds.

Black-winged stilts are found in a wide range across Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. The European population is mostly migratory, flying to Africa for the winter. Although the UK is too far north to be part of their usual range, birds from southern Europe do sometimes turn up here. Occasionally, pairs arrive and nest in the UK. Nesting attempts have become more common in recent decades, which has been linked to climate change. Warmer weather in southern Europe dries out the wetlands where they would usually nest, pushing them north to find more suitable sites.

When walking through the dark sometimes it’s necessary to borrow hope from others around us.
