Key Bridge connects Georgetown, DC, and Arlington, VA. This is the oldest surviving bridge across the Potomac River in Washington, DC. This view captures the shadows on one of the lightposts with a backdrop of the Rosslyn (Arlington) skyline.

I literally shot this with my camera sitting on the ground in the middle of West General Robinson Street. To the right is PNC Park, to the left, the Marriott Residence Inn I lived in for about 3 months. Pittsburgh is a very quite city...

This photo was the place winner of the 2011 Lowell Photography Contest. It will be on display in the Boott Cotton Mills Museum in Lowell for the several months. There were some wonderful entries in the competition, so I'm very proud to have placed.

These ships are really amazing. There was a tangible connection to the past when walking the decks of these ships, especially the trans-oceanic ones.

I was exploring the San Francisco Maritime Museum on labor day with my wife and decided to test out the New Portra 400 film with the 500 C/M handheld (with the flash-grip - without the flash - and a prism finder). I also mistakenly scanned this at 100MegaPix. The results astounded me. This Film is SHARP! (and my scanner is better than I thought it was). The Wide-angle 50mm Distagon lens is not the sharpest in my collection, but this shot and scan shows it is much better than I thought it was. I was attempting hyperfocal but I slightly missed the focus as foreground objects seem a little sharper than background objects (yet I *still* see a hint of the vertical wires on the distant bridge).

I frequently walk down to the Hamilton Reservoir fishing pier which is only 1/4 mile from our home. Along the walk, I keep an eye on the utility poles for the Broad-wings that will perch there. This time as I was returning from my walk, I found one perched on the street light right in front of our home. Impervious to me, I waited a little while before it decided to take off. While it was nice that it flew towards me, I wish the lighting had been better.

More architecture of Nice France. I can not imagine all the labor needed to maintain the shutters that are all over the city.

I like this because of the light post with the light on, against the cloudy sky. It was different so, I shot the picture. My camera is always with me. I shot this in Mountain View.

This huge golden eagle has been loitering in our neighborhood. Today I found it sitting on top of a light pole looking down onto the streets. It 's probably watching out for its next prey. The bird is big. Its wing span is almost 8 feet. When I walked closer to the light pole to take some shots at the eagle, it just glanced at me arrogantly and shrugged me off. Since the Fujinon lens has a limited range, I had to do some heavy cropping to get this thing sized up.

The smartphone as a photographic tool is gaining acceptance among photographers- both Pro and Amateur. The smartphone's ease of use and portability makes it a tool of choice. Although I'm not ready to sell off my traditional gear, my smartphone has been a reliable piece of equipment.
