Nieuwpoort, Belgiƫ

active 19th century lighthouse that stands on the 300-foot (91 m) cliff top of Easter Head on Dunnet Head. The lighthouse is 66 feet (20 m) tall and was built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson, grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson.

To be honest, I preferred it when it was rusty and with ruined paint, but I guess it's ok.

As always I was freezing waiting for the right moment, when hundreds of birds passed by, you can barely see them here.

Griffiths Island Lighthouse, Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia

I popped down to Penmon whilst it was still dark on the day of the wedding. Unfortunately there wasn't time for me to wait until it got light, but there was plenty time for me to get chilled right to the core. I ended up with a lifeless picture to start the day, which was thankfully soon forgotten as the wedding turned it into a spectacular day..........and night.

The lighthouse in Portand ME. This was the first stop on our fall vacation in New England. I was lucky with the weather, we got there just before the rain started, so I had the chance to photogtraph the lighthouse in sunlight, but interesting clouds on the sky at the same time.

I've always enjoyed a brief stop here on the beautiful drive between Carmel and San Francisco.

This lighthouse is built in 1841 at the "Europa Point" in Gibraltar. This is the southernmost point of the Rock of Gibraltar, and a place from which one can see both Europe and Africa.

Explored September 19, #334. Thank u :-)

And as the evening darkens, lo~! how bright,

through the deep purple of the twilight air,

Beams forth the sudden radiance of the light,

with strange, unearthly splendor in the glare~!

Tynemouth Pier extends 900 metres out to sea and the walk to the pier lighthouse is rewarded with some magnificent views of the river entrance and back towards Tynemouth Priory & Castle. The pier is a Grade II Listed building and dates back to Victorian times when its construction was a major feat of engineering.

Portland Bill Lighthouse is a functioning lighthouse on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. The lighthouse is located at the very south of the island, warning coastal traffic off of Portland Bill. The lighthouse and its boundary walls are Grade II Listed.

Both Portland Bill and Chesil Beach are the locations of many wrecks of vessels that failed to reach Weymouth or Portland Roads. Portland Bill Lighthouse guides vessels heading for Portland and Weymouth through these hazardous waters as well as acting as a waymark for ships navigating the English Channel.

As Portland's largest and most recent lighthouse, the Trinity House operated Portland Bill Lighthouse is distinctively white and red striped, standing at a height of 41 metres. It was completed by 1906 and first shone out on 11 January 1906. Originally, both the Old Higher Lighthouse and Old Lower Lighthouse were the two functioning lighthouses on the island, where both were opened in 1716 and continued to warn ships of the coast until 1906, when both were decommissioned. The Old Lower Lighthouse became a bird observatory whilst the Old Higher Lighthouse became the home of Marie Stopes, and today remains a holiday let.

The lighthouse was was built with stone from surrounding quarries at Portland Bill. The area was quarried for centuries until they were abandoned by the early years of the 20th century, following the lighthouse's counstruction.

Arguably Portland's biggest attraction and most photographed feature, the Portland Bill Lighthouse is open to the public, where tours are operated by Trinity House, and a visitor centre is also a big part of the lighthouse.

Portland Bill is a narrow promontory (or bill) of Portland stone, which forms the most southerly part of Isle of Portland. One of Portland's most popular destinations, Portland Bill is also noted for its rough coast.

The light pollution in the sky just above the horizon is from the coastal town of Weymouth, 11 km (7 miles) away.

This..just because it's a bloody miserable night and my holiday seems like a long time ago.

I love lighthouses. We've visited almost every single one in Michigan, and are trying to complete visits to every single Great Lakes Lighthouse. Seul Choix (say "Sis Shwa") is one of my favorites... so much so that I've visited it four or five times. Great location, you can climb to the lantern room (even though it's still active!), and the folks that man it and give tours are the nicest around. Located near Gulliver, MI, it's well worth the stop if you're in the area.

Happisburgh lighthouse sits on the far east coast of Britain, a few miles up the coast from Great Yarmouth.

A bit of artistic licence here, as the light wasn't shining on this day!

The lighthouse at Hurst Point on a wet and windy day. Its a very interesting and atmospheric place near Milford On Sea on the south coast. There also Hurst Castle which is very interesting and great views of the Needles and the Isle Of Wight.

The New Brighton Lighthouse was originally known as Perch Rock Lighthouse and construction began in 1827. Since October 1, 1973 it has not been in use as a lighthouse, having been superseded by modern navigational technology. These days the lighthouse is maintained by the Kingham family.

Perch Rock Lighthouse is situated where the river Mersey merges into Liverpool Bay. It sits on a rock that was previously called Black Rock which in 1683 had a 'perch' erected on it by the city of Liverpool to try to stop ships from floundering upon it.

Flying visit to Chester today, and (with an couple of hours on my hands) decided to seek out New Brighton, and in particular this lighthouse which has been on my tick list for a very long time.

Nowhere near the conditions I hoped for, and this serves pretty much as a record shot, to remind me of somewhere I'd like to get back to in the future.

New Brighton itself was a curious place from what I saw of it, and would like a mooch around given more time.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse

A National Heritage Site

The lighthouse on Godrevy Island is at the eastern end of St Ives Bay, and is thought to have been the inspiration for Virginia Woolf's novel "To the Lighthouse". The Godrevy promontory has two coves and a wide sandy beach, and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is owned by the National Trust.

The lighthouse was built in 1858/59 on the largest rock of the Stones Reef. It is an octagonal tower 26 metres high, and has been automated since 1934. Prior to that it was manned by a crew of three. It is approximately 300 metres off Godrevy Head.

Nice place to walk around and definitely worth a visit with a guided tour!

Cape Bonavista Lighthouse

Newfoundland

Built between 1841 and 1843 and operated until 1962. It is the 4th oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland.

It was very windy and cold the day I came here so I didn't spend as much time as I had planned to photograph this.
