CABO ESPICHEL (lit. Cape Espichel) is a cape located near Sesimbra, Portugal. Tourists are drawn there due to breathtaking views of its cliffs facing the Atlantic Ocean.
The location is famous for the a sanctuary complex (lit. Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel), built extremely close to the edge of the tall cliffs, and still in use after more than 700 years.
Also famous, are the several dinosaur fossil trackways exposed in some of the now tilted Jurassic strata which form the cape's cliffs. It is said that local superstition interpreted the trackways as the path taken by the saint when riding a giant mule from the ocean and up the cliffs, which led to the eventual construction of the convent at that location.
I photographed this lighthouse the other week and decided to make the road to the beach a feature of the shot as it is usually left out. It is now a private residence and has been for quite a while. I bet it can be rented out as a holiday home although I haven't checked it!

The lighthouse at the southwest end of Lismore actually stands on the islet Eilean Musdile. It marks the southern entrance to the Sound of Mull. I'm pleased that I managed to place it in the area it's protecting and caught it before the heavy clouds darkened the whole scene.
Took this shot of the Walton Lighthouse while hanging with my son and dad. Both excellent photographers.
Godrevy Lighthouse was built in 1858–1859 on Godrevy Island in St Ives Bay, Cornwall. Standing approximately 300 metres (980 ft) off Godrevy Head, it marks the Stones reef, which has been a hazard to shipping for centuries. (Wikipedia)
Cove Point Light Station is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay. Located in Calvert County, Maryland, it's a nice and easy 60 minute jaunt from the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas, and a nice duplex vacation rental property.

Erected in 1870, this lighthouse stands on Cape Blanco, Oregon’s farthest west point of land. The Cape Blanco Light Station was put into service in1870, then automated in 1980.
It is one of the few lighthouses that you can climb and see the original lens, which is still operating. See the lens and staircase in the previous two images.
Have a great start to the new week ahead. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.
