The Los Angeles Public Library was designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and opened in 1926. It's in an Egyptian Revival style with sphinxes, snakes, mosaics, and of course the pyramid on top of the building. There is a huge globe chandelier in the dome under the pyramid. The Central Library was heavily damaged in 1986 due to an arson fire. It was restored and expanded by Norman Pfeiffer, and reopened to the public in 1993.

The Los Angeles Public Library is on the National Register #70000136 and probably should also be a National Historic Landmark.

Illuminated geometric light fixtures cast a warm glow over a staircase within a building, showcasing a blend of modern art and architecture.

An enchanting evening display of potted plants and warm lights on a wooden shelf, creating a cozy and tranquil atmosphere in an outdoor setting in Fujisawa, Japan.

I had to do a lot of fiddling around to get this one to where I liked it. The actual sign was much darker. Snapseed Photo Share’s various Tools allowed me to finally get it right. This IHOP has been completely renovated. I looks absolutely up to date: inside and outside. I’ve dined here from time to time since 1977.

one wonders:

1.) can you buy this fixture at IKEA?

2.) do you have to assemble it yourself?

(later)

1.) ANS: they do

2.) ANS: and you do

A rather striking looking light fixture in a restaurant I was eating in recently.

This light fitting was in a rather large and elegant old home (supposedly haunted)...I personally didn't get any bad vibes in there. The house had many lovely architectural features including gorgeous bay windows and classic doors. It has apparently been looted a few times, but still amongst the debris and decay there are still remnants of the past that remain untouched.

For the non soft version view in lightbox...Will flickr ever sort this out?
