Attended a performance of Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella), Royal Opera House Muscat, Oman

A stunning venue with an excellent mix of modern and traditional opera house features, with strong Arabesque styling. The performance was by the Bayerische Staatsoper, on tour to Oman. I'm not actually an opera boff so can't really provide a critique but it was entertaining! Great night out.

THE SEAGLASS STORY

The SeaGlass story began early this century, when The Battery Conservancy was designing the park’s interior. The southern end of the park needed more light. The design team came up with the idea of an aquatic carousel to conjure The Battery’s history as the first home of the New York Aquarium.

The New York Aquarium, located in what is now Castle Clinton, was one of the nation’s earliest public aquariums, opening in 1896. This aquarium welcomed 2.5 million visitors annually until it closed in 1941.

SeaGlass was born through the genius of wxy architecture. Inspired by the chambered nautilus, the spiraling pavilion of glass and steel brings art, architecture, and music to children of all ages.

The George Tsypin Opera Factory created a mystical underwater experience. The rider sits within iridescent fish that glide through the sights and sounds of a 360° aquatic adventure.

A golden angel statue, perched atop a column, commands the dramatic sky. The monument's grandeur is undeniable, a testament to artistry and history of Paris. The ominous clouds suggest a coming storm, contrasting beautifully with the serene figure.

This summer I flew out of Terminal 2 at the MSP airport and took a few photos of the interesting lights over the waiting area. Also known as the Humphrey terminal in honor of perhaps Minnesotas best known politician. I also converted to BW as shown below. Not sure which I like better.

I really like the design of these lights that seem to be some sort of air ship. A bit of da Vinci and perhaps a bit steam punk. I could not find anything about them on the web.

Look at that funky wall behind the grate light.

Caption read: A do-it-yourself kitchen fixture uses seven graters as pierced metal lampshades. The graters are suspended from a 2x2-inch wood bar by lighting hardware bolted at holes drilled through the grater handles. A ceiling outlet supplies power, but a single grater-lamp could be run off a baseboard outlet via a wall bracket.

This is a row of lights on the ceiling of the hallway at The Hilton Resort....I rotated the pic because I like it this direction.

I turned up the blacks and contrast and this was the effect. I think it's so cool...but....I may just be over-excited about it... =)

The Los Angeles Public Library was designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and opened in 1926. It's in an Egyptian Revival style with sphinxes, snakes, mosaics, and of course the pyramid on top of the building. There is a huge globe chandelier in the dome under the pyramid. The Central Library was heavily damaged in 1986 due to an arson fire. It was restored and expanded by Norman Pfeiffer, and reopened to the public in 1993.

The Los Angeles Public Library is on the National Register #70000136 and probably should also be a National Historic Landmark.

I saw this great light fixture at a house having a garage sale earlier this summer. I can't remember if this was for sale or not, but this is nice. Looks like something from the 1970s or 1980s.

I don't go to Ikea very often but when I do I always find the items and displays in the Marketplace area of the store interesting. I don't usually need anything before I get there but once I'm actually browsing through all the bits and pieces I suddenly seem to think I need everything I see. I was on an errand for my daughter yesterday and managed to get out of the store with only what was on the list.....a moment of self-control. :-)

I took my camera because Ikea has so many items and areas with great design and saw these paper-shaded lights hanging in the cafeteria.

The house of mold....

The cause of fungus is always too much moisture as fungi can only develop in humid conditions. When fungi appear in your house, you can be sure that you also have a moisture problem.

To combat the fungus effectively, therefore, you must first fight the moisture problem. Common moisture problems include condensation, moisture and rising moisture.
