There were two lightbulbs like this in our hotel room. Wonder if they'd have noticed if I'd unscrewed them and replaced them with 60p bulbs from Tesco?
Our fancy old bulb in the fancy old truck factory. Useless as proper light but beautiful as an accent.

They remind me of this installation that grijs linked to a long time ago - its very close, perhaps it's the same same creator?
Richard Box' artistic display of 1301 fluorescent bulbs lit by the overhead high-power lines -- just from the ambient energy surrounding the lines.
Wireless transmission (intentional) and fluorescent bulbs were both invented by Nikola Tesla.
The fluorescent bulbs of Richard Box's display, "planted" in the ground to pick up "waste emissions from the overhead power lines", are in effect acting as wireless transformers as well, providing a graphic depiction of a phenomenon that could actually shed additional light on the mode of action of these other energy devices.
Box says, "There's sound as well as light - a crackling that corresponds to the flashing of the lights. There's a certain smell too, and your hair stands slightly on end."
Though the shows are at night, when the effect can be seen best, the fluorescent tubes are lit continuously, depending on the whether conditions. The dryer the air, the more the tubes act to collect the ambient energy. Humid air acts as a conductor to ground, tending to bypass the tubes.

Here is a stock standard Compact Fluro lightbulb used in our dining room. It’s a good light, and relatively cheap at about $5. But there are a few issues.
For a start, many people don’t like the actual light emitted – and many people are worried about the heavy metals contained in the bulb. I personally think the light levels are fine, and the heavy metal content is so incredibly small that it doesn’t worry me.
Having said that, I am concerned that there are millions (if not billions) of CFL’s around the World now, and sooner or later they will be thrown out. What worries me is the collective amount of heavy metals that this will create.
Also, I think it’s REALLY important that there are as few issues as possible for energy efficient products, and the next light (a LED bulb of the same consumption) addresses all issues as far as I’m concerned.

Dropped in for some 130V 60W ceiling fan bulbs. I like the longevity of the 130V bulbs. Changing those 120V bulbs from Home Depot every 6 months was driving me crazy.

I don't like flashy awards, since they're mostly given because of an obligation to stupid group rules. If you got something to say, say it in your own words and not by copying and pasting. I don't follow such rules, so if you have the sweaper running, don't even bother to invite me please. As of now the flashy awards will be removed, no offence!
