Friday 18 October 2013: Fuel for thought...

With energy prices going up again by over 8%, we really need to start considering other sustainable fuel sources... I found another clump of honey fungus at the side of the lane this morning - perhaps we could use them to power our lighting and heating in the autumn months.

Brand new camera means lots more stuff goes in the lightbox!

The investigated concept of my final series is the abstraction of things that I see every day by emphasizing often unnoticed details. This photo relates to my concept because you wouldn’t notice the details of a lightbulb like this because you wouldn’t normally stare at a lightbulb. The filament in the bulb looks like it’s stretched inside of it and there is a distorted reflection of the light in the glass of the bottom of the blub; there is also a reflection of the light in the glass bowl-like structure surrounding it.

To take this photo I lowered the aperture so that the filament lines wouldn’t be super bright so that I could capture the glass details. I also cropped and adjusted the photo to get even closer to what I wanted to focus on.

The size of this photo is 3.56 inches by 6.32 inches.

So this is where they grow them! Glass blowing is a myth!

Más Wanderlust Pinwide. Una de las gracias de este lente es que es posible acercarse cuanto uno quiera al objeto. Siempre va a estar en foco (lo borroso no es por estar desenfocado, es por la difracción excesiva causada por la apertura).

Two eyes.

Blue Nose.

Big smile.

It's a man made of lightbulbs and boxes.

Taken at the American History Museum in Washington D.C.

This is me and the French doors leading out to the garden... with a twist...

I've just noticed the dust at the top of the bulb... sssshhhh, don't tell anyone...

The only thing that got broken in the move was this lightbulb, which partly broke away from its metal end.

Actually, I just remembered that a wheel snapped off the portable aircon unit too. That's annoying.

Just how many minifigs does it take to change a lightbulb?

October 6, 2114.

Playing around in PSE 12. Figured out how to spherize part of a photo.

With textures from Shadowhouse Creations. Thanks again, Jerry.

To conquer the darkness, man invented the light bulb...

And he plugged it into the socket to get some light.

But sometimes the lightbulb can be a hassle to install...

When you can't reach the socket, you'll have to pile up everything you have.

Doodle Max and friends gather around to install the new bulb..

Another quick mess about - Been meaning to have a go at this for a while (in fact I've saved this lightbulb especially. Wanted to practice with different lighting to see what effect minor adjustments to position and power made. Only had a few minutes spare so went for hand held (didn't help) but learned a few things. Processing seems to have introduced a lot of artefacts and will need to look at the workflow here to try and figure out what I did.

Setup was pretty simple - Lightbulb an LED torch and the iphone (using a softbox App) for a bit of fill on the bottom of the bulb.

The torch was directly behind the bulb (to give the impression that it is turned on) Shutter was 1/40 or thereabouts at f4.0

A better lens would have helped here I think, as would a tripod and a snooted speedlight instead of the torch for a pin sharp bulb rather than the grainy one I got, though in this case I think the grain almost works quite well.
