Light room at the top of the Rockefeller centre, NYC. Cannot remember the name of the artist who built this installation...should start to take notes while taking photos...

Strobists heaven room!!!! Movement detectors allow the room to change colour in a crazy way. Spent 20 minutes having fun with my camera!

Build a classic light box for shadow exploration. These images MUST be in black and white. You will build a box in which you arrange (through wires, staples, tape, glue, whatever) various shapes, objects and materials. You will then turn off the main room lights, and turn on a point light source. Set the camera on a tripod and explore your lightbox for interesting abstract play of light and shadow.

Strobist: Cocoon 70 lightbox (borrowed), one 580EX camera front at 1/16 power - view large

Schuyler sent me pics from his new DIY lightbox and I knew I just had to make one too. The only thing was I didn't really have any projects to shoot in it.

While at the zoo today I noticed they had the newer coke cups. They aren't really anything special, I just happened to study the whole Coca-Cola revamp from two years ago and when I saw the cup I immediately wanted to attempt to recreate the photo in their advertising.

As you can see I had to use a different straw and the printing isn't the same (you don't see the coke bottles along either edge) but I think I did an ok job.

In all, it was a good study on lighting (I used two Home Depot drop lights with compact flourescent bulbs) and product shooting.

Here's the rig assembled prior to covering with cloth. I didn't use any glue so that I can easily dismantle and store it. I recommend tapping in all pieces with a rubber mallet to ensure they are well seated. Regretfully my daughter was disappointed when she found out it wasn't a house for her.

I think I'm going to need a) more lights, and b) different bulbs (full-spectrum instead of regular incandescent).

Behind the scenes =)

My lights fired at 1/16th power into semitranslucent paper which covers the sides and top of the box. The back has a hanging sheet of bristol paper for backdrop.
