In its 160-year history, many keepers and their families have tended the light. Also known as the Crescent City Light Station, the lighthouse was operated by the U.S. Lighthouse Service until 1936 when the U.S. Coast Guard took over operation and maintenance. The light was automated in 1953, but the Coast Guard continued to maintain the Fifth Order Drumm lens until 1965 when it was decommissioned. The light was then reactivated as a private aid to navigation in 1982.
During the 1964 tsunami, the resident keepers were stranded in the lighthouse. Although there was no damage to the lighthouse itself, the trapped keepers were helpless as they watched in horror throughout the night as the series of waves wreaked havoc on the mainland and swirled around the base of the lighthouse. The keepers provided a terrifying eyewitness account of the destruction caused to Crescent City.
Trying to find more morning mists of summer. I like the amtosphere of those several minutes when the sun shines through the fog. Here's an another picture from the pine tree alley in my city.
Thank you for all the comments and faves, my friends.
This is an old school house at O'Hara Mills in Madoc, Ontario. I love how the beautiful winter light filters in through the dark room giving a mysterious feel to the room.
Thank you all so much for visiting. Your support is very appreciated.

Some lovely breaking dawn light reflecting off the small Lighthouse at St Abbs Head, Scotland. I used my newer lens to zoom in, giving a closer view on this rocky cliff top.
St Abbs Head is a dramatic coastal headland, ringed by cliffs and famed for its sea bird colonies. A National Nature Reserve, it provides stunning views of the coastal area. The Lighthouse which has been in service since 1862 and was built by David and Thomas Stevenson, who were from a family of lighthouse engineers. It was automated in 1993.
Spring is in its full blow on my balcony this morning. I took this shot earlier today before going to work, I simply couldn't resist the light, colours (even the last night's raindrop stains on the kitchen window), and the anticipation of summer. :) Time is going to be in critical short supply today, so I'm off now to run some errands and shall be back later to enjoy your postings of today.
Hope your day is fabulous my friends!
