This pole was previously occupied by a crow. The crow did not like a sparrow who was perched across the highway and took pursuit after the sparrow, removing it from the higher pole. After being assaulted by the crow the sparrow disappeared in a flock of starlings. Today the starlings have taken over the pole.
History of First Lutheran Church
Under the guidance of the Rev. J.W. Ruthrauff, First English Lutheran Church was established in Louisville, Kentucky, as a congregation of the Olive Branch Synod on June 6, 1872, with fourteen charter members.
After meeting in several temporary locations, the congregation moved into a new brick house of worship of its own on Easter Sunday, 1874. The church was built on the southern edge of the city, at its present location on Broadway (then called Prather Street). First Church was in a good position to grow, and within a few years, an addition was built onto the church building to provide more space for the expanding Sunday school.
Once established, First Church played an active role in the promotion of other missions in Louisville. In 1876 the congregation aided in the formation of a Sunday school in the western part of the city which became the nucleus for the organization of Second English Lutheran Church (now Fenner Memorial) a year later. In 1880 the members of First Church sponsored another school east of its parish, and that produced Third Lutheran Church in 1886. They supported a mission school in the Highland area, which resulted in the establishment of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1892. And in 1890, thirty-four of First Church's original members were transferred to still another new congregation at Second and Oak streets - St. Paul English Evangelical Lutheran Church (which later merged with First).
In 1903, at the site of their first building, the congregation constructed a new house of worship - the present Gothic-style, limestone edifice. Among the many impressive features of this building is a wooden altar carving of "The Last Supper," carved by Alois Lang, and presented to the church in 1916.
A stone educational unit was added in 1960, as was the seven-foot bronze statue of Martin Luther. The sculpture, by Frederick Soetebier of Germany, is one of only ten Luther statues in the United States.
During the early 1960's the existence of First Church was jeopardized by the development of Urban Renewal programs in its neighborhood, but the congregation successfully petitioned public officials to allow the church to remain at its Broadway location.
First Lutheran Church celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1997.

To reach certification, a course must demonstrate a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas including environmental Planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education and water quality management.
This is a gorgeous golf course with rolling hills, bent grass greens, and zoysia fairways. If the 50 white sand bunkers and tree-lined fairways aren’t enough to get your attention, how about the creek that meanders through several holes, with ponds on #5, #14 and #18. This has been rated as the 7th most challenging course in Kentucky. However, there are enough different tee markers to either help or challenge every level of golfer. A fully stocked Pro Shop and snack bar will help round out any day at this beautiful course. Along with spectacular golf, Charlie Vettiner Park also features a fishing lake, fitness course, hiking trails, and playground for complete family entertainment.

Kentucky DEP advises fish consumption for bottom feeders (catfish) and panfish to one per week (in a healthy person), and one per month in sensitive people (kids, elderly, sick), and for predatory fish such as bass, one meal per month with Mercury listed as the contaminant. . water.ky.gov/waterquality/Pages/FishConsumption.aspx

While this may look like a quiet first day of Spring here in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, it is not. Outside there are train horns blowing, the ground is shaking (as usual) and now there is also construction/earthwork going on nearby as one can clearly hear the backup beeps of construction equipment & earth movers. Who knows what they're burying or covering up this evening. Yet Kentucky wonders why they have a drinking/drug problem. Gov. Bevin says, "I know we have a noise problem" - wanna trade places, Matt? To whomever approved all this work going on at once in this area or "looked the other way" -
At any rate, Pancake is snoring on the couch.

Another auto accident behind our little subdivision yesterday evening. No one killed, A child was taken by ambulance from the minivan that the blue honda ran off the road. Many witnesses. The apparently alcohol impaired driver crossed the center line and ran the minivan off the road. This was a good opportunity to say hi, meet and greet new neighbors.
Not sure of the function or cost of these rocks but they did create a fun place for Pancake to play.

She just starting chasing sticks a few weeks ago and we've had her for a year (never played) after watching it done in the dog parks, but wouldn't bring them back, and she'd go after them in the water but wouldn't bring them back. So you can see the look of pride and accomplishment (and tail wags) with this one. : )

Took Ms. P to Dog Mountain at Cherokee Park but there were not many dogs out playing this afternoon. She still had fun. Dogs always do.
